I thought Gary Liddle was immense at the back today. Played a massive part in Pools' promotion and looks like he's going to be just as important to us this season.

I'm struggling to think of anyone who had a similar impact second time around. Joe Allon scored some important goals for us when he came back to a struggling side. And Rhys Oates was a revelation last season, but his first spell was so average (to put it mildly) I'm not sure he counts!

Always rated Liddle and not surprised he's made such a good impact, should of never even got released years ago.

I have high hopes for Luke James tenth spell with Pools though in the 26/27 season.

There were very few poor performances today. I thought Ferguson looked leggy and off the pace, but apart from that the rest were superb. Zante FA had a battle with his winger and came out on top. Sterry kept a very good winger quiet. The centre-half partnership was solid, with Liddle organising and putting his head where it hurts for the team. Featherstone tidied up all afternoon and was only caught on the ball once. Tyler Burey was lively and made/took his goal brilliantly. There were some good touches from Goodwin (if that's his name). Ben Killip had one good save in the first half, but Pools were so on top in the second that he hardly saw the ball.

Very happy with the outcome and the performance.

Bit harsh on Fergy who I thought put some decent crosses in & never looked in any bother from his opposing forward. Young lad at CF looked useful & put himself about a bit. Some good chances made in the 2nd half which we may need to convert against tougher opposition in games to come.

I was shocked at how bad Walsall were, distinctly average. So far I've not been scared of anyone in this league, it's calmed the nerves a bit as I thought we were going to be woefully out of our depth.

Thought we looked a bit leggy in the first 20 minutes and that Burey wonder goal helped to get us on top.

pools will stay up if they beat all the poorer sides in the division. better to beat these than those at the top really. charlton used this tactic for years to stay in the premier league. being the top of the bottom quarter of the league would make this a good season.
