Seems like a mutually agreed decision. He might not have contributed as much on the pitch as he would have liked over the last 12 months (fantastic, promotion-winning penalty aside), but he certainly sounds like a leader who has helped to create the winning culture we needed and driven the standards required to gain promotion. Wish him all the best for the future.

Think he would have been useful to keep purely for being able to play in a few positions, but can understand why he would want to go elsewhere.

If it's a choice between warming a bench for most of the season with Pools or getting a regular game it's an easy choice for a bloke who wants to be playing. All the best Ryan.

According to the Mail it looks very likely that Luke Molyneux will be following him out the door. As he's under 24 and has been made an improved offer from Pools he's obliged to consider it for 28 days from the end of his previous contract. Think he'd already have signed back on if he was going to, so will accept another club's offer at the end of this month - just like Hawkes and Richardson did last season. Pools will get paid some compensation when he goes though.

Can't say I'm bothered. He has enough natural talent to have been a regular last season but only showed it in fits and starts when he did play.

Some players can’t, don’t or won’t fit into Challoner’s system. Do the maths.

donaldson might not have made the bench if we get a few more bodies in. molyneux went backwards for me last season which happens to many young players. next season will be an important one for him wherever he ends up playing for.

Dave Challinor has given Ryan Donaldson a glowing send off and character reference on the OS. I doubt he'll find more than a couple of sentences for Molyneux when he goes.

Scored a decent penalty against Torquay, some of the England players should have watched him.

Good that Donaldson would rather play then sit on a bench.

McDonald the big disappointment. Challinor must have thought he could change his attitude but seems too lazy for him. He looked to have a bit pace and control that Ilkeston game. Obviously attitude not there.

Molyneux maybe a little unfair, a few injuries held him back and maybe that affected his fitness last season. Certainly did well under Challinor previous season. A season of fitness could see him top grade in National League anyway.

A few fans on the Scunthorpe forum are wondering if they might make a move for Donaldson.

It would be interesting to see the fitness stats about Molyneux, as he may be suffering from a long-Covid impact. He was happy to sign last season, so why baulk at an improved offer after an injury/illness affected season? If he aspires to play at a higher level then surely 2021-2022 is the season to get stuck in & attract attention?
At the moment only him & Grey appear in line for the strikers' shirts, although DC will be working feverishly in the background to provide some competition for them

so we should start to hero worship donaldson because of than now he has left. funny how most on here a few months ago did not want him anywhere near the side. its a bit like yearning for your ex wife back after a divorce when you only remember a couple of good times and forget the rest.

Best thing he did for Pools was slotting that penner against Torquay, can’t criticise him after that. Best of luck in your future career Ryan
