RIP.
Classy centre forward for Ipswich and England, though I could have done without him helping to end Pools' cup run in 1978. Still, we went out to the eventual FA Cup winners.

I was there that day. That was the day when Bobby Robson said if he had 25000 fans like ours he would win everything.

Me too. I actually thought we had a chance of getting a result - before kick off.

I too was at that game and for a twenty minute spell Pools bossed that game before inevitable class including Mariner took over. Remember Derek Downing pulling back a goal just before half time and believing for a while it could happen. Anyway, Pools were the last 4th division team in the cup that year and our league form was shite as was usual. But can still see Paul Mariner cutting a defence to shreds. RIP Paul and thanks for the memories.
