Notts County defender Alan White has joined Darlington, but admits he would have liked to sign for Peterborough.

White has been playing for Posh on loan since March and had been hoping to secure a permanent deal with the club.

However, he decided to move elsewhere after getting the impression that boss Darren Ferguson did not view him as a first-choice target.

"I worked hard, had a good relationship with the players and management, and believed I had done enough to get a permanent deal," he told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

"I think Ferguson is looking to bring in a couple of defenders from Championship clubs and didn't feel he needed me if they agreed to come in.

"If those moves fell through he would have been interested in keeping me, but I didn't want to be a fall-back option as I thought I deserved a contract in my own right."
