A Poolie gift Michael Barron and Mark Simson have done another episode with Danny Wilson it is a must listen and is excellent.

Just watched it and I thought it was very good. Nearly two hours long.

A great podcast showing what a good guy Danny Wilson is. He recalls the day Hodcroft sacked him when we were 11th in League One. Oh if only we could ever back there. In one of Hodcroft’s worst decisions he appointed Tubby Turner as manager again and he took us to the brink of relegation. With Laurel and Hardy in charge we embarked on our journey to National League where we still reside.

it may have been a poor sacking and the years between has not changed my opinion. however you cannot really compare pools then to pools now. 11th in div.1 is just a dream now at the time it was a reality.

The only managerial appointment in nearly 50 years of supporting Pools, where I went WOW ! when I heard we had appointed him as manager. Excellent appointment, and turned out to be an excellent manager, sacked far too soon, it must have been something serious.

Why was he sacked then? These podcasts are all fine and dandy, but the big questions never really get answered. It couldn't have been results, as at the time they where okay. Rumour I heard was that Wilson was said to have criticised IOR in the boardroom at Hereford , for not providing funds for new players Wilson felt were needed. Unknowingly the people Wilson was talking to were at the game as guests of Hodcroft and ... well you can guess the rest. A couple of weeks later he was gone.

How we got Danny Wilson to come to Pools amazes me but listening to him it would appear that him and Hodcroft just didn’t get on. Hodcroft did not like people who stood up to him and there was only one winner, sadly not Danny. The way he spoke I don’t think Danny was surprised at getting the sack he was just waiting for it to happen.
