Has to be up there with the likes of Scunthorpe, York, Gillingham and Northampton , as been one of the worst grounds for us. W2 D2 L15 FFS

Both games against them last season were crackers though, the home game arguably the best game of the season and the first half of the away game, probably our best 45 minutes of the season.

The game that stands out for me though, for all the wrong reasons is this one. It was also played on the 28th December though it was a Sunday this time. I went with the missus and my then 2 young kids, the usual plan, book into a hotel, she goes shopping , whilst I go the match.

The trip didn't get off to the best of starts , with me spending too long in the pub the night before, and the missus hardly speaking to me in the car as she drove up to Nottingham. To make matters worse the hotel I had booked was one of those in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of the city. There were no buses running and we had to get a taxi into the centre. Worse still Nottingham appeared to be in some sort of Covid lockdown , as there did not seem to be many shops open , with the missus later confirming she and the kids had got a taxi back to the hotel an hour after we had parted.

Having quickly gulped down a couple of pints in a pub full of Notts County, I took my seat in the away end where 5 or 600 poolies had assembled. It was a good turnout , remember this was in the days before women, children and their grandparents started attending away games, this lot were mostly men, and they were in fine voice. It was the first time I had been to the new improved Meadow Lane, and it was impressive.

On the field it was definitely a case of after the Lord Mayors Show ,with a Notts County containing future Pools stars Gary Strodder and Gary Jones in their line up easily dispatching Pools by 2-0. Jones never scored this day, but still managed 28 over that season as Notts County went on to win the title banghead Pools season meanwhile as usual fizzled out and sticks in my memory of the season of 1-1 draws , with Pools drawing half of their 46 games , which at the time equalled the record for draws in a single season.

After the game, it was a taxi back to what was a very quiet night with the wife and kids in a hotel on one of them now common soulless complexes near a main arterial road, in 1996 though there wasn't even a Starbucks , Costa or Nando's to stifle the boredom

Not one of my better away days.

All I want for 2021 is the return of the EDIT function on the Poolie Bunker.

Rookie mistake, going for the weekend with the misses.
I don't think we played that bad,Pederson was outstanding, just finishing let us down.
They shut the bar early at half time as it was getting a bit rowdy.
There was 20 of us on a mini bus & met with the Woodcutter lads in Wetherby till kicking out time.
Despite the result,a cracking day.

It was a mistake, though think that was the only way I could've got there from Swindon with no trains etc,
It was one of those games where we dominated, had lots of possession , but never looked like scoring IMO. That was typical of a lot of games in Pedersens short spell at Pools.
Glad you enjoyed it though.
