413 deaths yesterday and 492 one day last week.
Well this tier system that's being going on for a while now obviously isent working.
Can't imagine this lockdown will improve things.

All blew up again when the students were allowed back in the university's n colleges.
Should stagger their tuition to 1 day a week plus online teaching.
A shit load of them walking thru our shopping centre last week welded to each other without facemasks on.
No police or security in site but come from nowhere if someone pilfers a chocolate bar.

Not saying all students are disrespectful to the covid laws like.

A bad decision to reopen them IMO.

Think the lockdown will improve things, as it did last time , but then when things re-open again, the figures will go up again, especially as people will be making up for lost time in the run up to Xmas.

It's never been a total lockdown, that's the problem, supermarkets being allowed to open gives people an excuse to go out, as does driving 50 miles to go for a walk , lack of enforcement , no real laws to back up any enforcement, kids and students allowed into schools and universities.

In the real world you cant expect people to do as they are told , the success of this depends on people doing the right thing, going to the supermarket once a week, not driving out of town for walks etc , but not enough people will do this, and that coupled with the kids going to school and students going to Uni. will mean this will drag on and on, with possibly another lockdown in January or February.

I think we can safely say now, there will be no crowds at elite football this season.

still a bit short of the 4,000 deaths we were lied to about last week.

It's never been a total lockdown,
exactly, so why did they use that word from the outset. know they are only words, but a lot of them that have been used over the last few months just do not discribe the situation one little bit.

Probably because it sounds good marra, as though they have got it under control and know what they are doing.

Its easy to criticise though, and there appears to be no easy options or quick fix with this. It looks like it could drag on for a while yet , or if we have a bad weather coupled with a flu epidemic like the one we had 3 or 4 years ago, we could be facing the winter from hell, fingers crossed.

for me i think it will go on forever in one form or another like flu. something as a country we are just going to have to live with like cancer and other illnesses. keep saying about these tropical countries where the population just live with maleria and other tropical diseases without having their lives totally restricted due to the possibility of contracting one or other of them.

Other countries like Spain had a harder lock down and yet are still suffering badly. Even Germany who performed better than most are still suffering.

Headlines in the "Daily Mail" in early December "Boris Saves Christmas".
Everyone goes crackers for a couple of weeks :obscene-drinkingbuddies: :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingchug: :obscene-drinkingdrunk: :obscene-sexualdoggy: :obscene-sexualbutt:
January arrives cases skyrocket, NHS overwhelmed and death toll mounts.

Another lockdown.

Perhaps the only people who should be released to "enjoy" Christmas are practicing Christians which is only 6% of the adult population.
The remaining slaves to gluttonous consumerism can surely be persuaded to delay Christmas till Easter or Ramadan or Eid or Diwali depending on how events play out.

Merry Christmas everyone.

It's still raging in Europe, the early hard lockdown in March doesn't seem to have benefited them in the long run .Oz and New Zealand aren't as densely populated as us,it must be a lot easier to contain the spread.

China got it under control by force or the threat of force. Do as your told or we'll beat you up until you do.
Freedom has its price, we're paying for it through longer lasting impact of the pandemic.

When shopping, remember that China doesn't celebrate Christmas. Avoid their stuff whenever you can. British Gin and Whisky for me!

While we waiting for this vaccine to kick in the government shud make facemasks compulsory in all outdoor spaces.
Then that little glimmer of hope of getting back in the Vic for April/May might happen.

careful what you wish for. even with this vaccine i can still see the present restrictions like muzzle wearing going on for quite a long time. in fact i can see somethings never going away. even with a 80 per cent of the population being vaccinated they are still going on about restrictions of some ways still being inforce. honestly i just cannot see 70k plus crowds at old trafford again for a long time. football fans may be in favour but are the general public who still think death is knocking at their doors are.

Spain got their numbers down completely. It was only when they relaxed the lock-down did the numbers start going up again (logically)

As the vaccine is made by Pfizer does it have any side effect.

Not blaming him for the virus, but his party for starving places like the NE of cash since 2010 , therefore creating a landscape where the virus is more likely to flourish, as the link I posted alludes to.

not just the NE but most of the north of england. even the most devout tory must realize where the virus has hit the hardest area of the country. lack of any serious investment might be just a co incidence but does make you wonder why this has happened. once any normality does ever come back a serious look should be taken on why the north suffered the most.

World War 2 American deaths 405,000 in 3 years.
Covid 19 American deaths 240,000 in 8 months.
Scary numbers.

"Levelling Up" was in the Tory manifesto, so the shortfall in northern investment was recognised, as was the need to redress the balance before covid struck. All covid has done is to underline the fact.
At the end of this parliament we will know how effective the Tory policies have been in redressing the balance and the electorate will deal with it accordingly.
The only problem will be the availability or otherwise of a viable alternative and that is in the hands of the opposition parties depending on whether they present themselves electable or not.
That is the reality.
Like I said before the election, you can whinge about Tory austerity over the previous ten years as much as you like but unless you offer an alternative which is acceptable to the electorate, you are pissing against the wind.
I'm not quite sure why people can't see that.

Was talking to a bloke the other day, and he said he will be out ( drinking ) every day after December 2nd.

He is in his 70s , probably gutted that most of his socialising in the pub this year has been lost , conscious that he isnt getting any younger and most of his mates are dead or are dying.

This is exactly the problem though, places will be rammed after December with people making up for lost time.

Sadly because of this I can't see the pubs re-opening again after December 2nd , and think we will be in the highest tier lockdown from then until Christmas, so don't get your hopes up. Personally I am absolutely gagging for a pint and a laugh in a pub setting, regardless of all the restrictive practices in place, when you are inside one.

teenagers being teenagers what next. going back to my teens were just a few years of being completely selfish and the world was all about me. they know that nowt will happen to em anyway regarding the virus. they will not die and honestly looking back to all our teenage years when did we bother about any of our actions affecting others. i very much doubt they know or are interested anyway about what they can and cannot do. even older and more careful people do not know what these present restrictions all mean. even my local chippy now are only doing fish to order as they have seen a massive drop off in customers since the new restrictions came into force.
