Will the game go ahead? Ollie Bayliss on Twitter saying the NL will refuse to start unless emergency funding confirmed, yet BBC suggesting this isn't on the PL's/Govt's agenda this week. Sounding rather touch & go now...

Probably find out on Friday.
All the league's above n below the vanarama national are up and running so I'm positive that the powers to be will come up with a solution.

The NL is probably waiting for confirmation that Pools will have their new kit to wear for the game. No one wants to see the game, streamed or otherwise, if our players aren’t wearing kit!!

It really is a mess. When the NL met 5 days ago they were confident that the government was going to announce a funding package for the NL and women's football, as per their statement: "The National League is actively engaged with Government, with the assistance of The Football Association, to secure a critical financial support package, and it is hoped this can be announced very soon."

The trouble is the government wanted the Premier League to provide money from their billions in television revenues to support the EFL, and the PL is refusing to even discuss that, so you had EFL chairman Rick Parry weighing in at the weekend saying EFL clubs will go to the wall too if they aren't included in a government bail out.

I think Bayliss is right - the NL will have to make a decision in the next 48 hours and if there's no announcement from Rishi Sunak they'll have no option but to cancel. The NL North clubs have already voted to cancel because once they have issued player contracts they can't legally be withdrawn. Their idea is to mothball the clubs for another year. Can't see how that works in practice. Have squads really been training all pre-season on promises? Not to mention that a some clubs like Hartlepool that have banked hundreds of thousands of pounds in season ticket sales.

If the NL cancels the season it becomes easier for the government - support the EFL and the wimmin - their seasons have already started and the voters and media are much more aware of them anyway!

NL said yesterday they were awaiting news and if confirmation didn't come, they would be changing their stance. Could be Friday when we finally hear whether a game will take place.

Yep. Yesterday Dover posted an email from the NL to their chairman that says:

“... matches will be played “behind closed doors”, i.e. without supporters admitted, in accordance with Government policy and Stage 3 of the elite sport protocols until further notice.

“Looking forward, the Board’s objectives are to ensure that all clubs can commence their fixtures programme, and all clubs are able to meet their obligations over the course of the season. Moving forward with only a subset of clubs involved would not be acceptable.

“Hence, the League’s appeal to Government with the assistance of The Football Association for each club to receive compensation for lost net gate revenue each month for the period that clubs are prevented from admitting supporters.

“The Board is aware that whilst some clubs may want to commence the season without external support, the vast majority of clubs require financial help to be able to sustain their participation over the coming months without crowds.

“The League is aiming to receive confirmation of the Government’s support in advance of the season commencing next weekend. Should this not occur, the Board will review and reconsider its stance..."

In other words, carry on planning for the season to start, but it might not!!!

The Dover website goes on to outline their plans for live streaming and give people who've bouhjt season tickete two options:

Fans who have already purchased a season ticket can watch the live streaming for free.

"To help the club, season ticket holders have two options.

1.Take up the option of watching live streaming for free and use your ticket if the fans are allowed to attend games again. Once committed to this option, no refunds will be available.
OR
2. Season ticket holders can claim a full refund."

Wonder if Pools will follow that line? When will we be told? Jesper and co. seem to be miles behind every other club in the league in preparedness for the new season. There really is no excuse for this.

You'd hope they are waiting for the official line from NL before putting live stream passes on sale.

The NL will surely make a statement some time today now that the government has confirmed that it will be providing compensation for fans not being allowed into grounds.
