Can anyone shed any light on this? Taken from Nick Loughlin on Twitter:

Quote:
I understand a substantial bid has been made by a consortium to takeover Hartlepool United.

They are awaiting a response to their attractive offer from the current owner Raj Singh and have firm plans to strongly invest in the club and team. In the current climate - and bear in mind where Pools are right now with few staff other than the players and management in the National League - this is a chance for some real investment to get the club back to the levels where it was not long ago and bring back some positivity. It would also give Raj Singh the chance to leave with a deal in place to offer a chance for quick progress. Remember Harold Hornsey sold to IOR in similar circumstances when he felt he could not take the club on any further and look what happened then......

I'm nervy about Loughlin being excited about new owners...

The difference is that IOR had reached a point where they were desperate to divest themselves of responsibility for running the club but weren't trying to recoup their outlay over the years. The opportunity to buy a professional football club for £1 is catnip to the chancers and con artists - look at what happened to Bury last season.

Raj will want his investment in HUFC back before handing over the reins to anybody. Any consortium that is serious about fronting up £2 million or so to buy the club wouldn't be able to recoup more than a fraction of that by asset stripping.

It still sounds too good to be true like.

Raj saying to Radio Tees that the offer is insulting and he doesn't know those making the offer.

I imagine the offer is insulting to Raj , but this time next year he may regret not biting their hands off. At the end of the day in the current economic situation , I can't imagine anyone credible with an ounce of sense wanting a slice of Pools. These will be offers from another set of vultures circling around , as they have been for a few years now, as is the case when something is rotting away on the ground. I envisage It's going to be a difficult year ahead, whether with or without Raj at the helm.

Don’t understand why anyone wants to buy a football club, they are just a rich mans toy. Saying that someone bought the likes of Harrogate,Fleetwood,Forest Green and if Raj hadn’t taken on Pools where would we be. Only problem is he is not rich enough on his own to subsidise the club like IOR.

Like Raj says all this does is cause disruption to the plans for this season coming. Club focus on here and now not some Bullshit offer, as we say on the terraces who are yer??

Raj could offer them 49% of the club for a season to test their metal, if they aren't chancers the other 51% after that period should he choose too or scatter if appropriate.

a good idea but i doubt it would happen. all this takeover talks fill me with dread now. the recent pools past and the happenings at other clubs get me in a cold sweat. there seem to be more bad guys out there than good ones and its really hard to imagine pools getting the latter. know pools have their debts and are poorly run but surely they are a better prospect due to their fan base than someone like boreham wood or brackley could ever be.
