In the last couple of years i've had 2 X Box 360's, my car, 2 washing machines, a SKY+ box, an interactive pen display, a dishwasher and Boiler develop major faults. All of these items were no more than 2-3 years old. Is it just me or are things just not built to last past there warranties?

Its not just complex and expensive appliances either, shoes seem to fall apart from just general use and clothes fade and tear within weeks of purchase.

It all seems a massive waste of my money and the worlds resources, not to mention a rip off. Should the government make manufacturers increase the warranty periods of these items to encourage better quality, even if it means slightly more expensive goods? What are your experiences?

they implant a timer connected to the circuit boards, which activates a short-out of the system which causes the thing to bugger up. The timer is set for the extent of the warranty.
That's what I believe, somebody has to show me proof of the contrary.
Not that I'm suspicious or paranoid or owt like.

It'sofficially called 'in-built obsolescence'!

My parents were given stuff as wedding presents that they were still using 40 -odd years later. Luckily, as their income didn't cater for much beyond clothes and food.
Now, by comparison, we have amazing salaries but we have to spend them all on in-built obsolescence. That's progress for you

The warranty is just a guide. You can still demand a repair or a refund after the warranty is up if its "reasonable". (for instance, if you have a washing machine that you've used 6 times because you've been out of the country this would be resonable. If it's been in a launderette (remember them?) it would not). Whilst this is open to interpretation a decent shop/manufacturer will usually replace the goods if you have some evidence or the item has clearly been lightly used.

Know your rights!!

Not that I watch it (regularly :uhoh: ), but why doesn't anyone on Eastenders have a washing machine? Surely over the long term it would work out cheaper than going to the laundrette all the time?

Besides your clean clothes would always smell of Dot's tabs.

Whilst were are on the subject, is that new kebab shop on Corrie the only one in the world that opens at 9am? Who on earth buys kebabs at that time in the morning? (Unless you are ADG of course)

Not sure about ADG but the kebab stall at Leeds sunday market is open from and has people using it from 6am. I always go for the bacon butties from the stall next to it.
