Came across these signs near where I live next to a stile on a public footpath on one of my daily strolls the other day. Seems a tad over the top?

I don't consider any advice intended to curtail the spread of this virus to be over the top.
That advice could possibly save lives. My wife and i go for a daily walk in our area and try to avoid touching anything that we don't have to. if doing that saves one life then i'm happy to take the advice and carry it out.

I agree entirely. That's exactly what we do. We've just come in from our walk and the kettle is on. It is better to be safe than sorry.

There is always an element of this, people take advantage , usually farmers , who hate the fact public footpaths cross their land. Saw it during the foot and mouth crisis , getting stopped walking along railway paths etc. They may have been within their rights, but they weren't in acting alone and putting barriers and barbed wire up etc , which of course they conveniently forgot to take down when it was all over.

There's a public footpath on the other side of the main road which cuts through the caravan site down to the beach banks. The owners have closed the site but blocked off the 'public footpath', now should they be allowed to do that?.
They just don't want anybody near their property, as with the initial signs (near an owners cottage). So we have a lot of people who are allowed to exercise once a day but have few choices(locally) where to do that. If all of the public footpaths are closed off that's okay then?

From what I heard , all the people living in the caravan park have been kicked off, so imagine there are security concerns with caravans been empty, that's if its true, that's only what I heard. I use that path a couple of times a week, so thanks for the heads up, suppose will have to use the beach instead. I would imagine its on their land, so probably within their rights to close it if they see fit.

The north to South cliff top path is open Ron, it's the entrance from the 'Gull' which is fenced off.

That land has never been classed as 'private land', it has bridleways and public footpaths/walkways right across it, many infact, you'll not find a 'private property' sign anywhere on that site. There is still people living on the site (as some have nowhere else to), I assume it's only the owners who have a separate main dwelling who have been asked to leave.

A few are laying low I believe. It used to be council owned, its privately owned now. Not sure if paths within its confines are public footpaths , but it is part of the Durham Heritage coastal path. I think to close it , they would have to seek some sort of consent from the council. I think they would get it under current circumstances. Just get in the car and drive to Roseberry Topping like everyone else

, usually farmers , who hate the fact public footpaths cross their land. their favourite is to plough the complete field obliterating the footpath . its not as if there are 100 plus every day crossing their land in many places.
