Anybody watching the second series that came out yesterday? I’ve watched it all twice now, having to stay home as I have bad asthma & and have had pneumonia, pleurisy, bronchitis & a weakened immune system. Just shows you what goes on off the pitch. They had the luxury of their rich owner in Florida signing Cheques in Ellis Short so were pissing money up the wall. Cattermole wasn’t mentioned much but was on 30-35k per week in League 1.

Couple of our old boys we had on loan on there, forgot Jack Baldwin was there, one of the first players you see at home. Charlie Wyke, can’t score for love nor money (my mate whose a 40 plus years supporter and season ticket holder reckons he’s out of his depth & would probably be a decent target man in our league).

Jack Ross got absolutely shafted for not getting promotion, Stewart Donald listened to the minority of fans who were starting to shout get Ross out, a playoff final and a Checkatrade final not good enough , the previous ownership should have had Maja nailed down long before the club changed owners, he was scoring for fun up till his head got turned & ended up at Bordeaux, had they had him I reckon they’d have got promoted and he’d have hit 20 plus goals.

Not a Sunderland Fan but if the choice to support was Sunderland, Newcastle of Boro I’d go with Sunderland. I love these type of documentaries remember the Sunderland Peter Reid one.

There's a series called "Sunderland till I die"? Honestly?

Yes it’s brilliant, or at least the first series was I have not started the second yet I need to finish and come down from Tiger King first. That is another story

But it’s probably the best football documentary I have seen. The makers are Sunderland fans so it’s seems to get the area and football spot on. It’s made with love but shows what is right and wrong about the game in equal measure and exposes some of the chancers and parasites who get involved.

I reckon it’s probably the best value of all TV platforms and a godsend at times like this!

I pay £7.50 a month I think. That's the most basic package. Only one screen at a time and no super HD.

Thought the second series was poor compared to the first. Doesn't show Sunderland AFC in a good light, blind leading the blind etc. Jack Ross was harshly treat , basically he didn't think Grigg was worth the money , but owner went ahead and signed him anyway. Must've made depressing viewing for Sunderland supporters, being reminded of yet another dismal season and of two Wembley defeats. Very slick programme by Netflix , though I imagine the original plan was for series 2 to involve Sunderland back in the Championship. The fact they are not, has probably put the kibosh on a series 3.

I'm currently watching Orient : Club for a Fiver. I guess it's a bit similar, just two decades before and with Leyton Orient. John Sitton and a pre pools Chris Turner try to steer the ship of a club hemorrhaging goals and hemorrhaging money with an owner who wants out at any cost. It's also the origin of that infamous "Bring your fucking dinner" rant by Sitton.

I follow Sitton on Twitter he’s massively bitter about Orient he has a real chip on his shoulder towards them, he’s a black cab driver now I reckon he hates Uber more than Joe Exotic hates Carole Baskin.

I warmed to Stewart Donald at first but I think it really sunk in how inept he is when he was negotiating Grigg's transfer. They'd known Maja was leaving for months before the window so had time to prepare more than one potential replacement.
To go from £1mil to £3mil + addons on the same day when your club is already financially fooked is Gary Coxall levels of stupid.
As for the other gadgie, the posh twat, I instantly disliked him. Not as much of a bellend as Bain but not far off.

Donald shouldn't be talked about in the same breath as Coxall who is just an outright conman, Donald at least is a reputable businessman with some money he was a dream sort of bankrolling owner for Eastleigh. Coxall didn't have the money to own Easington. I reckon the whole plan was to buy a club on it's arse who you couldn't fail to get it promoted from then sell it quickly when it was worth more than you bought it for a fast buck.

That whole Grigg scenario was ridiculous though, but it was brilliant TV and nothing to do with Jack Ross but everything thing about Charlie Methven and how much of a twat he was. They showed him throughout the episode as a set up lecturing as he termed them ' middle management staff' who at best were probably on 20-25K a year for not having 'ideas' and basically threatening them so he could justify sacking them. Every one them had probably contributed more in an hours work than he did in his fuelled buzz word cuntfest tenure. He almost blamed them for clubs position at one point which is absurd but then he and Donald were perfectly exposed when they payed three million quid for a half decent third division striker.

That revealed how shot term the plan was. Incredibly naive to think you can easily buck a losing mentally in League One and finish top two just like that it is a good standard of football. I agree Bain was worse as a bloke and parasite but with Ellis Short's cheque signing gone they could be could in deeper shit than most right now.

After finishing Club For a Fiver I discovered Chester City : The American Dream. Couldn't believe it was actually real. Basically, some gridiron playing yank buys Chester but makes himself the manager. He says gems such as "shoot in the hole", "gotta play the ballgame", "they're tugging our jerseys" and best of all "automatic penalty!" (while Chester concede a free kick....in the midfield). Despite the bloke paying most of Chester's debts, he relegates them twice under his clueless management. It's very surreal, and I actually feel sorry for the Chester fans who experienced it.

I know a similar documentary exists of Doncaster Rovers from 1999, didn't we have one? I think I saw one Pools documentary from 1995 and another from 1991 about some tour of Romania (rumour has it that's where our seats came from). Still need to watch this though and check out The English Game.

I feel sorry for him. Obviously an intelligent bloke and seemed extremely passionate. He pretty much became a pariah after the airing of that documentary.

He certainly did- Remember him leaving a foot in on Alan Little in the 1980s, sure Little broke his leg , was out injured for months regardless

interesting article here on Sittons take on things

There’s a lot of good stuff on quickly Kevin, not too sure if they’ve added any new ones lately, Lineker and Danny Baker podcast is a good one as well

For non football ones, I listen to Richard Herring and Adam Buxton

Watched it several times now, it seems Donald’s a decent bloke, Methven’s a bit of a twat. By the sound of it they bought the club which seemed a certainty to get promoted, make a few quid then see what happens, maybe sell it on. Reality didn’t get promoted, Jack Ross made scapegoat & Donald wants to sell now. I’d say one thing about Methven he got things done, he had a six percent stake in the club, he’s gone now as had Tony Davison the managing director. Methvens background is journalism & politics he’s the sort to be a Tory spin doctor. The main thing I’d worry about if I was a Sunderland fan would be the club running out of money, Donald’s got a few quid but bought like Ellis Short had. The whole Grigg thing was eneteryaing but showed how naive Donald is, it reminded me of playing Football Manager but for real. Grigg turned out to be a major flop that Jack Ross never wanted to sign, interesting to see where SUNDERLAND would hav3 finished if they’d broken the bank to keep Maja, could of mad millions on him if he’d carried on his form before he left in the January window?
