If ya thought this years increase was extortion.
Wait till next year.!

Coronavirus

Early retirements for council leaders blaming parliament while us mugs have to subsidise the chosen few.

People in power wear a shirt n jacket call themselves proffesers n move there hands about wen they preaching.

And I hav it from good autherity these people/leaders pay themselves 3grand + a week + golden handshakes when they take early retirement

Other opinions on this subject are welcome. .

How many people in Hartlepool do not pay any council tax or reduced rates?

Wasn't there an attempt in the 80s to change the rateable value tax to one based on the number of people in a property? Whatever became of that? Winners and Losers whichever way it is done.

Yes. Poll Tax. It was the beginning of Maggie's downfall.

Some places Like Hartlepool have the double ended dildo effect of high rates of poverty and low government funding.

There is a lot of demand on services because of the poverty, there is bugger all economic growth to contribute to business rates, which means people have to pay a high level of council tax.

And the government sit there and tell people "we're all in it together" and other assorted "you're not worthy" messages, whilst bailing out the bankers.

It has to be said that the council appears to have been very poor at addressing the needs of the town efficiently for a long time, but it is pretty galling when affluent areas of the country get more spend per head from central government.

Whats that got to do with it?

Some people need a car to get to work.

It does not mean they arent struggling.

It's not like people's ability to pay rates based on the potential rental value of their house took account of that either.
Mind, I've known worse systems where they based rates on the rent potential of ONE "specimen" house in the whole town.
What's so fucking hard about implementing local tax = % of income tax?
