Seems to be the Big Thing in beers in Europe (the continent, not the BJ version) at the moment.

Got to admit, there are some great ones doing the rounds.

They generally cost enough though! Having said that I got a bottle free in a record shop in Madrid just before Christmas, turned out it was a promotion campaign by the San Miguel brewers. Didn't taste like any IPA I've ever experienced but it had more flavour than their usual product.

The only IPA worth drinking is cask conditioned IPA the rest is filtered/pasteurised piss.

Craft beer is a joke its simply existing stuff repackaged and they charge you a premium price.

Drink responsibly :obscene-drinkingbuddies: :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingchug: :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

This. Even then there are some awful ones made with cheap shite ingredients ie Greene King Incredibly Poor Ale.

The reason so many 'craft' ale producers make them is because you can disguise a poor beer by shoving loads of hops in.

Yes Mr Nottingham some real/cask ales are shite Ruddles and Pedigree (which was a premium brand) has been re positioned downwards using poor ingredients and often sold at the likes of Witherspoons and copy chains.

Hello Poolies, Morecambe fan reporting in. I've first of all got to say I've been an admirer of the Bunker for several years. Some of the characters on here make it like a free copy of the Viz. Brilliant, got to be the best forum bar non in the whole of football. Your NE sense of humour is brilliant and I've had many laugh out loud moments reading it! Anyway that's enough of the arse licking! What finally made me log in? Probably my love of decent cask beer and this topic about transferring the qualities of cask to a bottled IPA. For many years I have loved Proper Job. I first discovered it in South Wales just outside Newport in the summer of 2011. A beautiful little boozer served the most amazing pint of the stuff and it was a wrench to leave for home fearing I'd never see it again up North. Then I found the bottled version which was quite simply the best bottled beer ever (no wonder it's won so many awards). I dread to think how much money I've put the way of St Austell brewery over the last few years with the Tesco 4 for 6 quid offer. 5.6% proof as well so it has a kick. Anyway I probably got too much of a good thing and recently my bottled beer of choice has been Oakham Brewery Citra which suits my taste down to a tee. A little bit weaker than Proper Job at 4.6% but a quality drink all the same and available at most of the supermarkets on the 4 for 6 quid offer. Citra hops lovely! Agreed there are a lot of very poor bottled beers out there so you've got to land on something you love and stick with it.

Anyway Poolies back to the football. You are a proper club and should be in the EFL (I don't have to tell you that). You've had your share of crap owners but hopefully you're back on an even keel now. I hope you get back soon and if you do and we are still up there (doubtful probably) please do one of those amazing fancy dress away days to NW Lancs at the first opportunity...………..brilliant!

Hello Shrimp on tour. Here is the traditional bunker welcome which I received: "Fuck off." Don't take it to heart - I didn't. As an adopted Poolie (first game in 1965) I am Cornish born and know what you are saying about Proper Job and St Austell ales (but not everyone's cup of tea with soft water and all that). Ironically I am now back in Cornwall and trying to get my hands on Cameron's Strongarm without success. That is a traditional Hartlepool beer. As for football thank you for your kind comments. Your own club will know all about struggle. I remember being sad when Barrow, Southport, Workington Town and Scarborough left the football league. In the case of Barrow it looks like they could get back and good luck to them. I saw them play at Aldershot in 1972 in their last football league season. They were replaced by Hereford United. Dunno where this is going but thanks for your comments and without abuse the bunker would cease to exist.

Thanks for those comments and I hope Morecambe stay up as it's one of my favourite away games . You have that cracking pub outside the ground with real ales including one of my Favourites Wainwright!

There used to be 3 Newcastle bottled beers IIRC. Broon, amber, and IPA, with the general current of opinion being WTF is IPA. Things have moved on.
I'm lucky I guess in that one of undoubtedly the best industrial breweries just happens to be one of the most popular here.
