One of the oddities of the world. They regularly help us out with players, Molyneux especially this season.

Yet you would rather a distant down South club be promoted instead. I have never understood these feelings of hatred towards local and helpful clubs. It goes on everywhere and harks back to the days before the world was known. Amazing that many have still not realised there is a bigger world out there.

I have friends who are Sunderland supporters and I'm gutted for them. We, as much as anyone, know how crap it is to lose like that in such a massive game. I have a lot of time for Sunderland and Middlesbrough, and their supporters. The Mags, however, can f**k right off.

I'm also gutted for Sunderland, know loads of Mackems from work and they are proper supporters and pretty down to earth.

It is better for Pools if the 'big 3' struggle.

If they are winning regularly, they will pick up more plastics from the town who are happy to shell out for a Sky subscription and replica shirt to wear.

Instead of going to The Vic to endure real life football.

Bad luck. The Barcodes just joined the ranks of the super rich clubs - allegedly.

You’re right. It’s a business.
Personally I don’t like or dislike Sunderland, but just because they’re up the road makes them no different to me than Charlton being in London. I’ve never been one for this wanting all the North East Club’s to do well, ......just the one.
I tried to watch it for 15 minutes and gave up, it was dire.

Every time I have watched Sunderland this season they have been dire, I would be surprised if Ross keeps his job I think most of the fans are pointing the finger in his direction, 23 draws I think I heard yesterday. When you spend about £5 million alone on strikers in League One I think it’s fair to expect a bit better than they have served up.

when the opposition treat the game like their cup final and set out not to be beaten then it was bound to happen. if someone like gillingham had the same squad they,d have walked that league.

I personally couldn't give a fuck about them or the mags

They throw us the scraps and expect us to be grateful

Like a lot of people have pointed out, a few Sunderland 'supporters' will pack away their tops and be down to Mike Ashley's superstore to by a Man City top before long

One lad a know, stopped 'supporting' Liverpool to support the Makems, I mean, if you're going to be a plastic glory hunting fan....

I think the same, if the big three were doing well in the North East, we'd suffer from lower attendances and interest. When I lived in the town one of the biggest piss boilers for me was seeing people waiting for coaches to take them off to Sunderland, Newcastle, Middlesborough, Manchester United home games.

I watched the game, it was dire, Sunderland lacked in all departments.

When you see loads of sunderland tops leave Hartlepool to watch them, no wonder some poolies want them to get beat.

nothing new in that. i,ve got relatives that regularly went to sunderland and middlesbrough and that was back in the 50,s and 60,s. imagine places like wigan and stockport are full of city, united, liverpool and everton fans also. at least they go to live games and not where their currant favourite shirt just to watch them on the box.

When I was young I went to watch Sunlun loads of times when Pools were playing away. Even Middlesbrough now and then.
Not because I support all NE teams but because it was handy and usually a decent day out.

Are you serious? It’s Sunderland, not Barcelona. Their glory days are long gone. Do you really think supporters of other clubs think Sunderland are a ‘Big Club’.... it’s a long time since 1973 and they were underdogs then.

but they do. there are plenty of teams down there have only really played division 1 and 2 football and their only chance to ever play sunderland has been in a cup game. do not know what the gates where when they came to town but apart from the fans they brought i,d imagine they got their highest home attendance of the season. probably the same when leeds where down there. be interested if anyone went to the odd sunderland home game last season as i,d imagine their opponents didn,t just park their bus there but hired another as well.

Sunderland have the advantage of massive crowds and big way followings, over 46 games they didn’t go up because they weren’t good enough. The major complaint for Sunderland fans I have seen about Ross is that they have been too cautious not the opposition and that he’s inflexible tactically.

also gutted for them, but did cause a smile as my son threw hes can of coke on the floor and 1st time Ive heard him swear over football when the winning goal went in. (we live there)

It could also have an impact as to whether Molyneux is offered a new contract there... Maybe he wouldn't have been if they had got to The Championship but many believing he could do a job in league 1.

To be fair I think a majority of people are guilty of glory hunting a prem club as a child, at least this guy grew up.

Yep it was acceptable in the late eighties to go to Sunderland games when pools were away at a ground more than a couple of hours away

A problem that never crossed my mind. The perfect way not to spend a Saturday. The cost, the time, just to watch a team I don’t give a hoot about.

It all depended on who they were playing. I saw George Best and Bobby Charlton at Middlesbrough in the League Cup. I also saw Laurie Cunningham, Cyrille Regis and Bryan Robson in that wonderfully entertaining West Bromwich Albion side at Gruesome Park. I saw Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters at Newcastle. At Sunderland I watched Kazimierz Deyna play for Manchester City. At that time, early to mid 70's, it didn't cost too much and you could just walk up and pay on the gate. Me and my mates, generally, had a great day out whatever the score.

The train cost next to nowt those days. I think I paid about 10 bob for a weekly rail ticket when I worked up there. And we actually had regular trains back then.
Hartlepool to Seaburn, 20-minute walk to Joker Park. Three and a tanner to get in. Money left over for some falling down juice. Back in time for the Green 'un.
Like I said, decent day out.

Is was fairly normal think when I first started going to watch football. If Pools were away out of range or not playing me and my Dad went to games at St.James, Roker, and Ayresome Park. Hardly any football was on Telly those days and you could walk up and pay on the gate for no more than it cost to watch Pools, in fact I remember getting ‘passed over the gate’ saving my Dad a couple of quid most times!

same for me when we moved away. no real interest in the teams like halifax or the bradfords except when they playes pools but it cost sod all. a tanner to get in and threepence for a programme{not a sodding matchday magazine}. it was still football and it helped me to fit in with my classmates who nearly all went to some match or another on a saturday afternoon.

Nice profit for Ashley if that goes through.

Sounds like the deal has some way to go and there's always that irony that nothing at Newcastle is ever black and white. Watch them get taken over by the tightest billionaire since...Mike Ashley!
