RIP Freddie Star

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

RIP Freddie Star

A mate of Jimmy Saville so he’s more likely to have nonced his hamster.

RIP? I hope not.

A funny man, RIP Freddie.
I'd recommend a more stealthy plan than googling 'afternoon tea dog'.

Presumption of guilt by association? Any vacancies going in the legal profession over there? You'd fit right in.

A bit more than association I think in the form of direct accusations, I think an alleged attack took place in Saville’s dressing room.

Either way I don’t think he came across as particularly pleasant individual.

As far as Starr is concerned charges against him were dropped. However, he sued a woman who said he abused her for libel and lost. The judge said that she had proved that her case and awarded a million in costs.

Hmm. I went back to the Graun's obit and found the link relating to the libel case.

So the CPS chose not to press charges after an 18 month investigation, but the judge in the libel case thought the balance of probability was that Starr had committed an assault. British Justice works in mysterious ways...

Guess the CPS thought too much time had passed but the libel judge thought Starr was using the libel laws to silence a victim. Strange but I suppose one case requires proof beyond reasonable doubt while the other doesn't. Means you can call him a nonce with impunity though so PJ won't be getting extradited. Not for libel anyway.

For the CPS to initiate a prosecution, they have to be satisfied that the a conviction is more likely than not. Not quite the same as the balance of probabilities, but it's hard to distinguish between the two tests.

So best not to call him a nonce but OK to say he was on the noncey spectrum which seems to have included many popular entertainers of the 70s?
