What's peoples thoughts on the situation now pending for the academy ? with no promotion the clubs academy status is unfortunately looks like its going now do we follow suit of other clubs and close the academy structure for younger age groups possibly up to u14's or risk losing some great young prospects in the younger groups ?

will loose no sleep if they actually close the acadamy for the lower age groups. just pick up the prospects that have been kicked out of other clubs who have spent money on em. just because you are brilliant at 10 it does not mean you,ll make it and all kids develop at different times in their lives. imagine there are loads of ex acadamy lads who are struggling to get a place in a sunday league side. my lad who plays says there are loads of em down coventry way like that.

Whilst it might be the right thing to do financially you still have to take time to consider the people involved. People are going to lose jobs here for a start you’d have thought, and you are going to have a lot of upset (in some cases devastated) children and parents at being cast adrift when some will have already been in the system a number of years. It’s a shame on that front but it must hard to justify any investment when you have no financial protection of the investment in these kids from being tapped by bigger clubs.

In the short term we will be better served with restarting the reserves, recruiting the youth team through scouting older lads in local football and pick up others who have been let go from higher level academies. It might even be a better long term system for a club of Pools size.

Block people from the other place who cause aggro

New account arises.

Pure coincidence I’m sure.

Its not about causing trouble it was a valid question

I know my lad is devastated about the whole situation he has been in the academy for 3 year and represented the club up and down the country and to have the club just not informed anyone what's happening and what the future holds and you also have to look at the staff who potentially will lose there position.

so no communication from the club, yet in your opening statement you are trying to make assumptions that the club will lose the academy, yet no-one knows.

I'd say you might be best waiting until the club actually inform your son or yourself as a parent which way they are going, rather trying to fuel fires that havent started yet...

If this topic ignited and started smoking then flaming, that may prompt the chairman to "pull the plug" and your thread could have been the catalyst that ended your own son's scholarship.

Just a thought

Again

It was a valid question should the club pull the academy for younger ages , its not about fighting with anyone its a valid question this is the position the club are in now they have to make a decision either way

do they close for younger age groups and concentrate more on the older age where potentially they will get a return for their investment

Has your fake son tried asking pools?

That would probably help

again let the chairman make the decision. Either way, only he knows what the best options are, as he has the insight with the facts and figures to make those decisions. Have you tried sending an open letter or email to the chairman to ask your questions? If not, could be an option for you

Does the club want to see itself as a community club? Its always been quite strong in that respect. I would keep the age groups that attract local youngsters to the club and hopefully make them Poolies for life. The costs can't be that great compared to the benefits. I guess we have to be philosophical and accept that some might leave on a free. That's just where we are in the food chain. I would keep the academy in place for a couple more years and see if we can regain league status or the rules are changed.

Double edged sword IMHO.Close the academy, lose promising talent, community links etc. Or close academy, forge links with local junior teams and Pro Teams etc picking up talent/released talent. Difficult question to answer.
