We rubbished the football chat websites over all the Luca Murphy hype, but it turned out to be a long way from completely made up. Now more on Luke Rennison, with details that might also turn out to be facts:

"Barnsley are favourites to land Hartlepool United starlet Connor Rennison, TEAMTalk understands. The 16-year-old is wanted by household names such as Newcastle, Leeds and Middlesbrough, however The Tykes are thought to be in the driving seat. Rennison is training with the Oakwell-club, where he is expected to be offered a professional deal. He is only a scholarship contract with the National League North club, meaning he is able to move to Barnsley before the end of the season."

Will Pools get any money this time? Doesn't sound like it.

Nope probably not, seems like the Football League rule needs to be adopted by the National League.

Just noticed the National League North bit. That's adding insult to injury!

Apparently he won't be 17 until July. Wouldn't you just close the whole youth system down if you were Raj? Kids (or their Dads/Agents) taking the proverbial. It sucks.

We had the same problem, Vinny Steels was too young to be signed properly so York poached him.
Unfortunately for them, Burnley then did the same to then so they got nothing either!!

Mail seems to think that an agreement has been reached with Barnsley - ie we will get some form of compensation - but that Josh Scott could be off to Sheff Utd and that wouldn't net us a bean....

You'd think people like Gabbiadini who know who know first hand how hard it is keeping professional football going in places like Hartlepool and Darlo would have a twinge of conscience at least. Serve him and his ilk right if Raj does call time on the youth side while we're out of the EFL. He'll have to look somewhere else to make a fast buck.

Their website looks like it needs an update - it lists Magnay and Jack Blackford as current Pools players on their books! And ex-players Dan Jones, Michael Duckworth and Blair Adams. Barcelona must never be off the phone.

I don't pretend to know what the answer is but it certainly isn't to spend good money, we can ill afford, on years of effort bringing on youngsters just so other unscrupulous football league clubs can poach them.
Either the football authorities find an answer to this anomaly or we cease to support the development of youngsters and, instead, pick up cast offs from the big clubs and let them spend the money on youth development.
That would be my suggestion.
Write to the FA or whoever spelling out our position and if they refuse to help us/back us up then send a letter to the parents of every youngster, with a copy of the FA's ruling, telling them their kids will have to go somewhere else.
Make a bloody big issue out of it.
Youth development at this level will not get another penny out of me whilst this farcical situation persists.
What's the point ????????

Daft question, but, these kids started when the club was in the football league, and the football league were still making parachute payments that have been used for the academy. Is there not some sort of legacy agreement that would cover the compensation rule, as there are still FL payments going in until the end of the season?

What a cracking question! Let's hope the answer includes the facts that all three clubs will be fined, the agents will be burnt in Hell, and Pools get a load of dosh............

No complaints with Barnsley if they have really agreed to pay Pools some compo for Rennison.

Hope Sheff U miss out on promotion and them and Fulham spend the next 10 years in the Championship...

I really don’t see the point of the Academy system at all if after years of coaching anyone can come along and poach them. Even any fee would be some derisory amount, that’s if you’re lucky to actually get one.
Far better to scrap the lot, and invest in promising players from other non league sides that can be used straight away.

The daft thing is they'd probably get a game at Pools eventually, their chances are hugely reduced at a bigger club so if they don't make it there really is no winner.
Pools generally give youth a chance and rarely stand in players' way when a move comes along.

unless the acadamy system costs pools nothing then its just a waste of time. if pools acadamy is like the others then i imagine a lot of sunday league players on here will have ex acadamy players in their sides who are no great shakes either.

I think successive relegations to the Vanarama would be better as we pass them on the way up and those players wan,t to come back to us.
