I'm gutted. I'd set my heart on Murphy, Rennison and er, whatisname being the spine of the Pools side in the 2020s.

Assuming there's anything in this story at all and Rennisson is good enough to be offered a pro contract, I don't see the Pools youth set up having any future while the first team is stuck in the National League. The Murphy thing has highlighted the fact that teams in the EFL are guaranteed compensation if one of their youth team players is poached, but that doesn't apply in the NL. It's a ridiculous situation and Raj will have every justification if he pulls the plug. We can go back to having a youth set up when we can afford one - as a team playing in the EFL.

I can’t see us scrapping the youth set altogether up but maybe the full academy is no longer viable. Maybe we’d be better with a youth team and reserves? Take someone like Niko Muir who’s barely had any football since Kabamba came in. Is it more benificial for lads like him to be getting football than having a load of kids teams?

Tranmere kept a youth team but scrapped all the age groups below 16, so I suppose the focus shifts to picking up late developers and kids already released by other clubs. They got promoted a year after though!

I agree it’s not worth the investment if players can leave for nothing before they are 17 but it’s up to the owners really, we can only really afford it if they are prepared to fund it. Where did we sign this Hawkes lad from who is scoring goals in the first team by the way?

i agree with this but the problem is who has reserve sides nowadays. you,d just get behind doors friendly games that will rarely be competitive which those who cannot get a first team start really need.

But is the underlying story - Conner Rennison - true or not? And if true, to lose two so quickly seems odd.
