I have been watching Pools for the last eight years or so, and overall, it seems to me that there has been one consistent problem - a lack of goal makers. Yes, we had Nathan Thomas who was almost certain to get the ball across, and who would always attack defences and create mistakes within them. Donaldson is trying to do that, but he is not as good as Thomas.

I think that we have sufficient goal takers, but no goal makers. Noble has reasonable distribution, but we need someone who will run at defences so that the goal takers can be in place to pick up on defensive mistakes. Presently, the goal takers are having to be goal makers as well, and that is almost an impossible job. I suspect that Luke Williams was brought in to do exactly that job, and when, if ever, he is fit he should make a big difference because he will run at defences.

It is very rare to see any of our midfielders run at defences. It's a bit like a foxtrot; slow, slow, quick, quick, slow (to the side or back).

I can't believe the number of times that Loach simply boots the ball upfield towards James. Someone needs to do the maths for him to show him what percentage of times James actually gets the ball in those circumstances; less than 10 percent. He needs it to his feet, because that is when he does become a problem for defences; a real nuisance.

The defence has come in for some stick, sometimes quite rightly, but when they are all there they are not too bad. Kioso made a real bloomer on Sunday, but overall I think he is one of the season's finds. Can't see us hanging on to him for long - unless we get back into the league.

As a manager, do you think Bates tells him not to hoof it or because of the skill level we have they can`t be trusted to play out from the back?
If I was the manager and he hoofed it up despite my instructions to play from the back, he would be sat at home on a Saturday or playing for someone else, it has to be the managers call!

Yes James etc needs to be attacking the goal not holding up with back to goal.........Lets hope Williams does the business and can provide the killer passes.

Goal takers sounds such an American term.

“HEY MAN. GET IT IN THE D FOR THE GOAL TAKERS”
