There was a chap in the Victoria Lounge yesterday. Apparently he was visiting his 1690th football ground. Some feat that for anyone especially someone with little sight. He got a pint and asked if it was possible to get a cheese roll or some other sandwich. After some quizzical looks and some debate he was told there were no sandwiches ... nor anything else to eat. This despite there being a functioning kitchen in the lounge. Eventually someone went to get him a cheese pasty at a kiosk. However he declined this as he didn’t want a pasty.
I wonder how many other grounds he has been to where such a simple request couldn’t be met. Surely someone could have got something even if it meant nipping to Morrison’s. By the way this was at about 2.15, over 2 hours before kick off so It wasn’t exactly packed out

The Victoria Lounge, like the Centenary Bar is a totally wasted resource. An example yesterday from the Centenary Bar, just before the England game kicked off the Centenary was pretty packed, a good two and a half hours before kick-off, never been known before, they had the big screen down but NOT IN USE , meaning that everyone had to crowd around the 2 small tv's with very, very low volume, a few people had arrived just after opening at 1.30 (i arrived at 1.45) to secure seats in front of the big screen only to find themselves worst placed to see the action on the 2 small screens. Quite a few people came in, saw the situation and promptly left. I think you did the same Geoff. You had the knowledge of the Victoria Lounge to fall back on, a lot of people didn't. There was no effort made whatsoever to try and make a bit of an occasion of the England game, more a look of disappointment on the faces of the staff/management that it was a bit busy. Since Alan and his family/staff left at the end of last season the Centenary in particular has been a shambles, poor drinks, poor service and totally devoid of any atmosphere either pre or post match. I myself and a decent sized group of friends used to stay almost every Saturday home match evenings till around 11pm, we've been leaving around 7pm on all bar one this season, thats 10 to 15 of us not spending cash for an extra 4 hours (probably around £200+ just from us per home game). We have Mr Maguire and Mr Sing always on about increasing revenue and yet they're throwing income away every other week with the current incumbents in charge. £200 on average from our gang over say 18 Saturdays per season is 3.5K , add another 50 or more people to that all spending on average around £20 a head is £20K+ per season and remember thats potentially on top of their normal pre match and post match (before 7pm) takings !!!!!! Throwing money away just in this one bar alone, i don't know what the Victoria Lounge is like these days, i was under the impression it was a family/kids bar for pre match only.

Dying a death I’m afraid to say. A table tennis table but no balls is just one example. Kids have given up as well. Lots of “ regulars” have gone missing.

Everything mentioned requires effort, though...

I understand that although the chap couldn't get a sandwich the club did look after him well in other ways - tour of the ground, free ticket etc so perhaps my criticism was a bit harsh. However the comments about the general state if the Victoria Lounge in general still remain. Surely more could be done to get more people in and to boost takings. Serving hot drinks and/or soup during the cold weather wouldn,t go far wrong.

Why would you go for a sandwich to a place that doesn't sell sandwiches?
Oh wait I've just got it........................because you turn up at a place to watch football that doesn't provide football, you automatically assume that you can get a sandwich even though they don't sell them.
Is there anything else that they don't sell that you would like to buy????
We need answers.
Where's Mellish when you need him????
They sell sandwiches at Old Trafford.......prawn ones. They're not playing much football either. Wonder if there is a connection sctatchinghead
