Just looked at the results there and they beat Gateshead away with 5 minutes to go, Currently unbeaten and top off the league. I've read a few pieces on them from when they have played teams and people think they are a really strong team, A few reporters even said before the season started that they will be in the playoffs come May but I didn't believe it myself, They took salford all the way last season and with the budget salford have you would off thought they would have walked the league. Again Dom Knowles with another goal had another good game I'm surprised no one has took a punt on him further up the league say league 2 I'd say he'd fit into league 2 team easily. Didn't we get Woodsy and Featherstone from them we should off went for Knowles as well while we where there he would off been a good addition in my book.

I said I fancied them for play offs to be fair. Obviously I am way off the mark again, as at the moment automatic promotion looks likely. Fair play to Gateshead who are not rolling over this season despite losing some of their best players and the club beset with financial problems.

I thought they would off finished mid table but it looks to me like they have picked up where they have left off last season they where playing good football so I got told last and they have a good up and coming manger in Simon Weaver which I'm sure will manage at a higher level, Yeah fair play to Gateshead they have also had a good start with the pressure they are under.

Very early days, to suggest that anyone is ‘likely’ to get automatic promotion (which means being Champions) when 8 points separate 1st and 15th is a bit bonkers, they have started very well and I was impressed with them at the Vic they actually get it down and pass it (even though we should have won) but don’t they have a plastic pitch? So unless they ripping that up promotion is massively unlikely.

I did say at the moment looks likely. I don't think they will stay the course in that respect, but I stick to my original prediction of play offs. Out of interest I had Wrexham down as Champions.

It’s hard to say everything points towards a tight competitive League, plenty of draws and close games. Nobody would have picked Macclesfeld out at this stage last season for example.

Obviously Harrogate are riding on the promotion bounce, us and Orient are showing signs of adjustment, Wrexham are looking solid again but a host of other clubs are tough at this level and could mount a challenge.

The most eye catching result for me last night was Salfords win at Flyde (el plastico!) they starting to show some ominous signs and Rooney has hit the ground running.

Gateshead were sold in July so not under financial pressure any longer.

I read somewhere they payed two hundred grand for Rooney and he's on five grand a week that's fucking ridiculous at this level, I remember when conference football was all about playing for the sheer love off the game and players working 9-5 through the week then playing on the saturday, I hope them ex Man Utd players that own the club get a shock and stay in this league for a fair few years, I'm sure they where 1/2 on coral for being champions then every team after that where like 4/1 5/1 it's obviously the bookies are arse licking them.

Despite all the money and publicity that Salford enjoy those are shocking odds. The bookies aren't so much arse-licking ex-players as mugging idiots who pay no attention to the lower divisions or non-league but saw the documentary and read about the Rooney signing. They certainly could win it but I'd never bet on anybody at those sort of odds over a long season in a genuinely competitive league.
