As long as we have a Keeper on the bench I’m not even bothered about the result

Unchanged, but we've taken Catterick off the bench and replaced him with Jake Cassidy. As a result, I can't see us getting anything from the game. Expect Loach to concede six.

Pools 3 Chesterfield 1.

A breach in the time/space continuum means that Chesterfield bring three coaches of bootboys and the game is marred by sporadic chew as they clash with a group of unofficial penguins.

Sounds like we could/should be 3 up by now. Hope we don't end up paying for missed opportunities but it sounds like James and Muir are doing very well and the chances will keep coming. Ref sounds shite.

Good win even if it sounded a bit tense towards the end. Crowd sounded good and it's excellent to hear Eddie Kyle talking about the team having leaders and a bit of bite in midfield. Onwards and upwards!

If my aunt had a cock she'd be my uncle I know but it gives you cause for optimism to think that if we'd have not conceded those two piss boiling last minute equalisers we'd be top of the League.

You get the feeling the team has nowhere fully gelled either and to think we can add Andrew Davies and Luke Williams to it you feel you could do something this season, this League is not very good it's all about getting on a roll and you feel with more games the front two will get better and better adding more in terms of goals.

Did Williams not play today? I wasn't at the game I missed it I was in the lake district for the missus birthday and it was fucking pissing down! Oh yeah how long is Davies out for anyone know? Can only make us stronger Williams coming into the team if he didn't today and Davies coming back from injury.

Now that was entertainment!! Fully committed performance from the mighty pools.
Aside from the fact we could very easily had four, well worth the win.
Kioso is awesome and Niko... oh, Niko... a proper footballer upfront. I could cry with happiness.
Everyone brilliant but last word to Noble who dictated everything, constantly talking to the ref, kept it going forward. Good times.

Don’t you dare go being positive on here, Horden is already pretty upset that we didn’t lose.

Spot on there PJ. However the fixture list has been kind to us with all but one point coming from bottom half teams. Next game against a very poor Havant & W team should see us in a playoff spot. But we really do need Davies and Williams fit to take on the stronger teams.

That is true about the fixture list but despite Chesterfield’s recent poor form they are still one of the league’s more fancied teams. It pleased me that we outmuscled them despite the long balls and long throws.

Seagullx3 nailed it - Noble was fantastic today. Battled for everything, used the ball well, lead the team and importantly used a bit of nous. When they had a bit of tempo going he slowed the game down - somebody who can do a bit of game management at last...

Really enjoyed that win today,I love getting one over martin Allen and I hate teams who play like that. Despite the bombardment of throws and long balls the team stood strong and battled for everything. Game could have been sewed up by half time but I actually felt comfortable near the end despite the slender lead. Thought everyone had a good game and did well. Oh and that ref.....dear me!!

Awful team to watch. Makes me wonder what on Earth his plan B is as well, if he has one of course.

Been browsing the Chesterfield forum - a lot similar to how many of us were feeling last year. Harsh reality setting in for them and playing such woeful football will not be helping them.

Haway Paul L , is there any need ?. On todays showing we will piss this league, in a similar way to 2006/07 under Danny Wilson.

We battled today and didn't let them out muscle us. Really pleased with the performance and the way the crowd responded. Great to see Mad Dog's tactics thwarted. We played all the football and are getting better with every game as the players gell and understand each other's game and their individual roles. Onwards and upwards.
The National League really must not continue to allow anybody and everybody who gets a whistle in their stocking to be in charge of their league games. That Ref today was shocking and should be denied access to every football pitch in the land.
Stelling was getting very angry with him and who could blame him.

"They bullied us" - Neale Cooper talking about Brentford in 2003-4.
"Did they fuck bully us" - the Bunker talking about Chesterfield 15 years later.

I like it.

If we had gone in at half time 3-0 up I would agree with horden about pissing the league but we have forwards who play very well but do not score goals. Call me old fashioned and out of date but I believe that we pay defenders to stop goals against and we pay forwards to score goals. Goals from the mid field are a bonus.
Having said that I feel that a playoff spot is well within the ability of our current squad.

No one will disagree that any forward should score more goals how ever you can see watching the games they will get fitter and move the ball around faster so goals will come, personally for me i dont give 2 flying @ucks who scores them.

I agree, I think they will get better but the forwards have to be more ruthless in front of goal and have more belief in themselves. We are finally seeing our midfielders shooting on sight and taking pot shots at the goal , now the forwards have to start doing the same. James yesterday got in a great position to run at their keeper and shoot, but as soon as he received the ball, he turned to face his defence , looking to pass to an onrushing midfielder player. A striker should be selfish and greedy, he should of tried to score himself, shot , maybe scored or maybe the keeper would of parried it and someone else would of got the rebound, but he hesitated and made the wrong decision and the moment passed.

I agree on that Mr. Horden. If its a one on one or even two keep going at thats the last thing a defender wants and there should be players following up to pick up any loose peices, if you get my drift.

France won the World Cup without the main striker, Giroud, having a shot at goal in the entire tournament, just saying.

So I don’t buy that strikers should be ‘selfish and greedy’ yes they need to score on a fairly regular basis but they have to work for the team and within the teams system. If your strikers can protect to the ball and hold it up keeping you in possession and get you into the final third then it’s half the battle. I have seen plenty of alleged goalscorers over the years who are so one dimensional that when you’re under the cosh are away from home you might as well have ten men Scott Fenwick is one that springs to mind at Pools and Darren Bent at a higher level.

Eddie Kyle thought our front two were outstanding yesterday the first line of defence, and I reckon they will both score plenty as the season progresses. Loads of potential in them which gives us a great chance to do well.

Don't knock it until you've tried it, I'm off out to wave at busses this afternoon.

I'm going to point at aeroplanes tomorrow but I imagine it won't top the bus waving.

I agree with horden, strikers should have a selfish streak and if they know what is best for their future careers, take credit for as many goals as possible.

Selfish isn't the right word in a team game, they should have a great desire to score goals as that's their job but I don't see much room for selfish players in the game these days. Even at National League level teams are much fitter than they used to be the days of the penalty box striker are gone. If you don't put a shift and if you don't run the channels I doubt you will be starting enough to score many.

Look at Harry Kane the best striker England have produced for a long time, I see him as being very single minded and obviously someone who is a a prolific goalscorer but a selfish streak? I mean I know much was made about the fluffery buffery around that goal he claimed last season but that is desire to do well for me not selfishness, players at that level tend to pick the right pass or the right time to shoot or they wouldn't be playing at that level. Much of his best work for England in the summer was outside of the box, I'd love to know how many free kicks he bought.

Anyway it's way to early to get concerned about any of our strikers goal return and it's sounds like they both had great games yesterday in a game we won without them scoring, you get three points for a win whoever scores.

They had a good defence to be fair, they played on the referee's weakness by throwing James and Muir to the floor whenever they could. What they didn't bank on was that both players can hold it up very well and bring others into play.

Not having that the wing-backs didn't do well either, Donaldson had his best game for us and once Kitching works out which direction the ball will go from each part of his head then we'll have another threat there.

On that showing from the midfield I don't see Luke Williams getting into the team yet.
