Fantastic signing if true, one of the best midfielders I've seen at the club.

Has he had a bad injury or something? Only 2 substitute appearances at Scunthorpe all last season, total of 29 minutes on the pitch.

I remember travelling into London in January 2014 for AFC Wimbledon v Pools

https://www.transfermarkt.com/spielberi ... ht/2333742

There was three players in that Pools team that were genuinely too good for that level. Jack Baldwin, Christian Burgess who absolutely strolled round the pitch without breaking sweat and Luke Williams who played the number 10 roll fantastically.

How we lost that game I'll never know, we were comfortable then got hit with two goals in two minutes. Marlon came on and should have equalised, that team wasn't half bad.

If he gets back to that sort of form, brilliant signing.

If we can sign someone like him then I fancy us for playoffs bare minimum

That would be a great signing if true. A proper footballer who was great to watch in the way that both Adam Boyd and James Brown were - you always felt they had that extra bit of "something". If my memory is correct him and Luke James seemed to have a great understanding. My only fear is that he may be too much of a "footballer" for this league.

I remember. Might of been the first time I'd seen Burge, a very northern biased league that year, or at least it felt like it! Burge was Rolls Royce at that level. Same season Brad Walker scored an absolutely worldie in the rain on a Tuesday night in Southend, was worth the admission fee alone.

Walker then spent the rest of his Pools career living on that, Probably the least thing he did in a Pools shirt

To be fair to Walker, he was a revelation at Centre Back considering he had never played there and was partnering Scott Harrison

Alongside Scott Harrison, would it be difficult to look like a revelation?

See Walker is still at Crewe, came on the other night when they were 3 down, and ended up conceding 6. He did okay as a makeshift centre half, but surprised he is still earning a living in the FL.

Mother Teresa would have looked credible next to Scott Harrison.

Walker is the most promising ability wise 17/18 year old I have ever seen at Pools. I remember a home game against Bristol Rovers that we won 4-0 when in the first half he gave one of the best individual performances I have seen from any Pools player he totally ran the show and scored a quality goal.

I am not sure what happened over the course of one summer but he seemed to grow and totally change physically and lost a bit of his mobility and I don’t know if he was behaving the best off the field and or things went to his head a bit but the lad can play football it’s a shame that 17/18 year old didn’t progress.

Whilst Walker certainly burst on to the scene as an 18 year old and looked excellent, James Brown was the best young player I have seen at Pools. I also think when Luke James first appeared he was going all the way to the top. Hopefully he still does and takes us with him!

Walker was 17 when he got into the first team.

After he did his ACL the first time at a pre season game at Hibs Brown didn’t really burst onto the first team scene until the promotion season under Danny Wilson in which when he didn’t become a nailed on regular starter until the second half of the season by that time he was 20. He’s still the biggest shame though I reckon without shite luck he could have played at the top level, he was still as talented a Pools player as I have seen after the first ACL, never the same after the 2nd sadly and quite understandably. My comment about Walker is quite age specific he’s the best kid I have ever seen play first team football that young for Pools.

No he hasn't signed, but he's been training with us for 3 weeks now and is slowly building up his fitness.

He's had a few bad injuries and a real struggle to get fit and stay fit over the last 2 years.

No doubt he's still got all the talent in the world and it would be brilliant if he can turn the corner with his fitness with Pools - but we've been here before more than once, notably with James Brown.

He's absolutely worth the gamble. He's easily league 1 quality when fit.

Agree - as long as people understand that it is a gamble.

Hell off a signing I seem to remember him driving at the opposition defence in that number 10 role he played it perfectly hopefully he playes behind James and Muir, I wasnt expecting that signing at all a bit off creativity at last!!

At last we appear to be addressing the main problem. Far too much attention has been given to the deficiencies in defence brought on by the lack of goals being scored at the other end. If we had half decent finishing, the three goals scored by Braintree, Maidstone and Ebbsfleet would not have cost us seven points!

I take it with what I've read today he'll be playing behind the 2 main strikers.. but am sure he was playing left wing last time he was here.

Could it not be possible competition for the left wing back spot?

If you’re signing a player like Luke Williams you certainly don’t want to be playing him out of position. We need to be setting up the whole team around him to get the best out of him, if he hits form like he’s capable of, he could easily turn us from mid-table to promotion contenders imo.

He was good for us 4 years ago, and an integral part of a good Scunthorpe team in league 1 a couple of years ago, so why is he dropping down into the National League?. Why haven't a league 1 or 2 team taken a punt on a proven player?. I hope it works out , but it does make me wonder. No doubt he will be on a 3 year contract.

You do hope that it’s on a sensible contract and wage. If so then definitely worth a gamble.

But if on good wages on a two year deal then a big risk.
