Released by Wrexham along with 6 others. He didn't want to leave Pools and has only started a couple of games for them, so it obviously didn't work out for him there.

I thought he was decent for us last season and the 6 goals he scored when things were looking up were a big part of the reason we all started talking about the play offs.

It wouldn't be popular with a lot of fans but I guess it's not impossible that he comes back - he'll not be looking for daft wages.

Time to move forward away from players who are used to losing at Pools.

He did alright initially last season when the team was on a decent run, when things got tough he didn’t seem to offer much which is him as a player in a nutshell for me.

I wouldn’t be massively surprised if he did return but I’d be even more underwhelmed than last time.

One of our better players only sold to grab some cash to keep us afloat.......get him back if his wage demands are within budget...........over to Mr Hartleblue............. bbolt

The fact you regarded him as one of our better players (which I wouldn’t dispute) says more about last years squad than it does him.

A former player I would consider bringing back to the club is Micheal Nelson.

Yes agree in a poor squad but he looked much fitter after returning from Scotland. I think we should just see what Bates does/thinks as he knows him better than most.

Nelson seems to have been involved with the coaching at Barnet so that may be where he want to take his career and 38 yo.

My understanding was we didn't sell Franks he was out of contract and couldn't resign him due to the embargo and also probably couldn't afford to.
Not really important though.

As for Nelson, how old is he?? I'd be happy with a return for Like James but not convinced by any other former players coming back.

He posted something on his Twitter about not having to drive South anymore which seemed like he was leaving Barnet and the reaction from the supporters was begging him to stay so he’s obviously still valued as a player down there, I don’t mind him being 38 at all the squad needs a few older heads most of the teams that do well at this level seem to have them.

James and Nelson would be my only two ex players neither would I attach to the recent malaise, Franks I would.

We need to find a genuine fat bastard as well to make it a proper National League squad. Maybe we fatten one of the still contracted players who we don’t really want? Scott Harrison might play better with massive man tits.

Yes it was the embargo issue so it was forced on us. As i said Bates knows him going back ages so in Bates/Higgy i trust on this one.
Nelson 38yo

Nelson was apparently offered a contract for next season.

He offered a ‘come and get me plea’ to Pools on Twitter only yesterday!

Quite a few of the National League sides who came to the Vic last season had centre backs could kindly be described as commanding and less kindly as big, old and slow, but most did alright against Pools!

I'm sure Micky Nelson could do a captain's job for us, but he's hardly a long-term option so I guess it depends what the immediate ambitions of the new management team are. Also, at 38 he is inevitably going to pick up injuries however fit he keeps himself - was out for two and a half months for Barnet at the beginning of this year.

I've mostly been impressed with McNulty when he's played against us. Git big centre back who can read/play the game and would probably be at a higher level if he had pace and less of an appetite.
He's just been promoted with Tranmere so obviously not a realistic target but someone of his ilk would be ideal.

I'm confident Bates/Hignett could leave signings to their mams and it would be improvement on our previous head of recruitment's efforts

Chesterfield have released Ian Evatt. He's 37 in November but he's the type of centre half that would do a great job for us.

It’s sad but it’s horses for courses, we should have done more of it last summer maybe starting with the manager.

Speaking of git big centre backs, Toto Nsiala is going into the Championship next season after being one of Shrewsbury's star men in their promotion campaign.

Not bad considering that 18 months ago there were plenty of Poolies saying he wasn't good enough to play in League Two!

There's a fair chance that Shrewsbury will get a big offer for him from one of the richer Championship sides, which begs two questions - do we have a sell on clause and if so whose pocket does the money drop into?

I'm happy to admit I was never convinced by him, my Grimsby supporting mate said the lad had an attitude problem too. Fair play to Toto for proving me wrong, I strongly suspect that was his main motivation.

I just wonder how much better Harrison and or Laing would have played if they had had an experienced centre half next to them like Nelson.

I see to detect that Mr Hartleblue is less than impressed with Mr Franks.

Franks but no Franks I’m afraid. We seriously need to move away from bring former players who have consistently failed to produce the goods at times when the club has been desperate for them to perform. Franks is very limited in what he can do in this league which is obviously why Wrexham have released him. He would probably do OK in the League below. We need to be able to compete on at least a level playing field with the likes of Wrexham in orde to make a realistic play-off push so if Franks is not good enough for them he’s not good enough for us. Hopefully Higgy will have learned a priceless lesson from his major gaffe in allowing Hapless Harrison Scott to return via the back door, a decision that ultimately cost the club dear.

I agree Franks but no Franks,as for Michael Nelson I spoke to him to years ago at the function at the Borough Hall and he was begging Pools to sign him then, without any response and so went to Barnet. My guess is that he will follow Allen to Chesterfield as player coach.

I’d have Franks, James and Nelson back.

Better than what we have currently.

Franks would get 10 goals in this league, he got 6 or so in a 1/3rd of the season.

I would have Franks, James, Nelson and Keith Watson back, all still a big improvement on what we currently have.

He only left as his contract ran down n we couldn’t renew it.

His form dipped a bit when everyone else worried about not getting paid also dropped.
