Chelsea defend Cup ticket farce
Thursday, May 3, 2007
chelsea have apologised to hundreds of their supporters who queued to buy tickets for the FA Cup final, only to be told all tickets had sold out before they were even due to go on sale.

The Premiership champions had said 6,250 tickets, for the May 19 final with Manchester United, would go on sale to season ticket holders at Stamford Bridge at 7am on Thursday.

However, a decision was then made to open the box office at midnight, leaving many fans who began queuing between midnight and 7am without tickets.

'We're all absolutely livid,' season ticket holder Brian Herbert told the Evening Standard. 'We are seething. They had told us the tickets were going on sale at 7am.'

However Chelsea have responded with a statement insisting anyone who had arrived at 7am would still not have got a ticket if the club had stuck to its advertised opening hours.

'During the night the amount of fans queueing exceeded the amount of tickets on sale from the box office so it was decided to sell the tickets earlier than the originally stated 7am time for the comfort and safety of those fans,' said the club.

'Chelsea would like to thank season ticket holders for their patience and apologise to those who were not able to get a ticket despite queueing.'

Chelsea made the other 18,750 tickets which make up their allocation available to season ticket holders via the club website and said it was inevitable some loyal fans would miss out.

'Once again we appreciate there is going to be disappointment, unfortunately this is inevitable given that the allocation we received is less than our season ticket holder support,' added the statemment.

If ALL fans were told that tickets would be on sale from 7 then whats the problem....? Selling them early doesn't make a dfference does it?

sorry dawlish. you have gone to all the time and trouble to post that and i simply couldnt fookin care less.

in fact the only thing that would make it interesting would be if the people who were queueing got home to find their house had burned down.

that i may find amusing.

but only if they were uninsured.

I take it you dont much care for Chelsea Mr Chip clappp

I posted this cos I thought it was interesting that despite having all the money and all the technology that you could ever want, the chelsea fans were saying the same as the pools fans after rochdale etc.
