Just to settle one of the strangest debates I think I've ever had..

You go into a shoe shop and the assistant asks what size feet you are..

I've used size 12 as an example..

Should read: 'Size 12' or 'Hello, I'm a frequent dog botherer'.

I only use locally sourced artisan bootmakers who work with traditional, environmentally friendly leather curing techniques. They understand the art of bespoke foot measuring and I'll start them with an approximate size and then we adjust up or down by the barleycorn. They're very strict though, bloke came in last week wearing Happy Socks and they just pointed, laughed called him a fucking tramp and then threw him out.

I haven't got a clue what this thread is about, but agree (I think, cos I chuckled) with Mr Toulose. So I voted C. Ps Mr Yloop may also be correct!

Mr Mac you must go to crap shoe shops, as an experienced cobbler/shoe shop employee should be able to gauge you foot size by eye. Also why did you give the sales assistant an example of size 12, unless you are a size 12? Personally I would have said size 9 as an example, as that's my size! Do you have issues/worries about your actual foot size? Where does barley corn come into the equation?

Yours, confused, from the Metropolis.

There's a death warrant out on Barleycorn (of the John variety). But not on size 12 feet.

It might sound like an American bastardisation. But even if it was it wouldn't be in the same league as classics like "leveraging".
However, "Barly cornes dry and rounde" (describing the unit of measurement) predates Columbus by the neck end of 200 years.

You've made an impactful point. I'd like to further leverage it and add synergies. Somebody with dry and rounde feet wouldn't get far without properly fitted shoes measured in barleycorns. This is an inclusion and diversity issue.
