Another win would be worth 10 MoM awards. Classic Pools end of season - pull away from trouble then drop themselves right back in the clarts. Some things never change.

Obviously the curse kicked in even before the announcement of the award, hence the 2 April losses so far.

To be honest Matty Bates is probably the most worthy winner of the award during the entire Bananarama NL season. Having guided that pathetic shower of shite to three successive wins during a five-match unbeaten run that on the evidence of last weeks performance seems incredible to have actually happened. I still don't want him as permanent first team coach though he deserves to be retained in some capacity once the clowns who make up the rest of the overblown coaching staff have been chased down Clarence Road to the Marina Big Top Circus.

Let’s not forget he was/is a coach and previously a defender. Yet our defence looks constantly woeful and never looks to improve or have ideas. Thank him for stepping in but get rid.

Even I got carried away with three wins on the trot and fully expected a fourth and possible fifth. However the bubble burst as it often does with Pools and I now realise just how difficult a return to the EFL will be. I predict that the manager that gets us back to division 2 respectability will win the 'manager of the decade' award as that could be the timescale required.
Wrexham have been floundering in the NL/Conference for ten years after a lifetime in the EFL with more to show for it than Pools. They attract bigger gates than us yet still find that paying full timers is no guarantee that they can regularly beat part-time teams often enough to ensure promotion. Our new owners are unlikely to bankrole the club to a great extent so I fail to see how we can out perform Wrexham in terms of a return.

In agreement with Eddie Kyle's comments on radio tees to nite that we need to bring a new manager in as Bates has been part of the clubs demise.
He also said what most poolies have said on here that there must be a mass clear out and he would only keep Woods Hawkes and Donnely.

I wouldn’t even keep Woods and Donnelly. Just get rid of the lot. I do like Woods, but he’s a perennial loser let’s face it. He’s not used to winning football games

To be fair if he had four tailors dummies in defence, he'd have a job getting them to play, but I repeat myself.

Has Bates ever been directly asked to why he hasn’t been available as a player this season? If he had decided to retire then surely some sort of announcement should have been made he was registered as a player at the start of the season. I did read a quote from Craig Harrison along the lines of ‘as far as I know he’s retired’ but what was the reason? If it’s because his body is in bits and he literally couldn’t go on then fair enough, but surely it would worth announcing that? I have a couple of Boro supporting mates who said if it hadn’t for injuries that he could have been absolutely top class.

I would hate to think he could have played this season and just hasn’t though, because even with a gut his reading of the game and positional sense would have made him better than Harrison and Laing. It would be reason to scatter him alone. The players might like him but the players are serial losers and if he’s in charge of them and had taken the easy option all season rather than put in some graft to get himself match fit then it all figures. Is he crocked or did he just not fancy the elbows at the likes of Solihull away?

It's certainly baffling that Bates has been listed as a player all season. He has never once this season been pictured in a Pools strip - he's always in a tracksuit, even in the photos of pre-season.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why why Pools didn't just announce that he had retired from the game instead of persisting with the pretence that he's been available for selection.
We've had one injury crisis after another in the back four but there's never been a smidgen of a of a suggestion that Bates was back in training.

It's daft, but the idea that Bates has basically refused to train or play is dafter. That's called breach of contract in the real world.
