We have always paid them we just did it indirectly through the players signing on fee so Hodcroft could say he didn’t pay agents!

Sunderland spent £4.3m on agent fees from Feb 1, 2017 to Jan 31, 2018. That's more than they spent on players. Of the Championship clubs, only Aston Villa spent more than Sunderland on agent fees in that period.

Ken was right in not liking agents the twats are killing the game in every sense the bloke has his faults but he wouldn’t he given the likes of Paul Watson a minute of his time never mind a fucking job.

Agents are just middle men, its the way of the world today, middle men everywhere, probably a few on this board. I agree , agents are wankers.

Middle men shouldn't be called middle men because they're never in the middle of anything. They should be called hanging off the side but sometimes getting a bit in the way men who somehow manage to wangle a few quid for themselves out of any situation. Or leeches which is simpler.

Obviously none of this applies to Compo's mate who is a reliable sauce.

Agents are needed to stop young kids getting crap deals or being ripped off by clubs. But they should be a central service, where they are employed by the PFA and offered to the players and clubs free of charge, but there should be a 1% tax on transfer fees that would be paid into a central pot to fund the service.

I can't think why our head of recruitment thought it was a good idea for agents to get a cut!

Much better if players pay agents direct then they can gauge value for money and there is no conflict of interest..
