I read somewhere that, in this league, loans can be made at any time during the season. Apparently the rules changed at the beginning of this season. sctatchinghead

You're correct. From National League website:

"There are a number of changes this coming season which alters the way the 24 clubs in the Vanarama National League will be required to operate in respect of player registrations.

There will be no longer any `Transfer Window` in August or January and with the removal too of `Emergency Loans`, clubs will now be permitted to loan a player at any time during the season in line with those terms which has been applied with clubs in the Vanarama North and Vanarama South.

There will still be a limitation on the number of loans and no club will be able to name more than five players in any one competition fixture."

Why does the mail say we’ve missed a deadline then?

Apologies all. I've just phoned the National League and it turns out that the above info is incorrect!!! Just can't get the staff. :angry-screaming:

Confusing 2 different things NHS. Yes they have abolished transfer windows but kept the 4th Thursday in March as the last day for accepting registrations. Then they have given themselves wiggle room to consider any request after yesterday on a case by case basis imposing any conditions they feel like. Clear as mud!

Surely our paper thin squad due to a fire sale and an embargo would be enough to justify some ‘emergency’ loans?

You'd think so but if we're stuck with what we've got I still think they are good enough to stay up based on the effort of the last couple of games. Confidence is on the up and I think we'll scrap over the line regardless. Hopefully a little fan power will count for something as well.

Hope so, but as I said while back, it would only take a couple more injuries and suspensions and the starting 11 will have to include some of our (very young looking) kids.

8 games left - be great to win a few more in the next couple of weeks; it would probably be enough.

So ! It appears people are suddenly bothered about us staying up now. Beating Solihull at home or at least avoiding defeat will be key to staying up.

Yes, and it's mostly down to that Bates fella you're still not sure about.

The key to staying up is signatures on the takeover deal because if that doesn't happen we face a ten point deduction which would probably relegate us.
Of course people are bothered about staying up, who the hell would want us to go down.
Up until Bates taking over there was a certain inevitability about it. This new deal gives us hope at least.

Yeah it struck me on Wednesday when Harrison hobbled off at the end that the lad who came on looked a) terrified and b) about 11.

Yep though he looked as white as a sheet, however in such an important game with long throw after long throw who could blame the lad, onwards and upwards for him

It’s in no a way criticism of him it’s just a symptom of the situation, whatever happens the lad has made his professional debut and him and his family would be right to be proud of that.

Having seen him play a few times, he is an assured player with a calm disposition, I wouldn`t have said he looked terrified, more a case of wanting to get on and prove himself.

Think we can still sign "free agents" though can't see that there would be anyone decent available at this stage of the season

Is he a defender? He could do with hitting the gym a bit, plenty timefor that though.

I personally think the window closing could be a blessing in disguise. I'm quietly confident we've turned a corner and giving kids the odd chance will only help them and the club long term.

Signed on deadline day, just announced later. Deadline for registrations is always around this time for non-league, no conspiracy against Hartlepool.

seen the announcement yday it didnt mention being done on the thurs so fair enough. reading the section regarding signing playere it still seems you can after the deadline at the discretion of the league, or am i reafkng it wrong.
6.2 REGISTRATION PERIOD
6.2.1 [In any Playing Season the Registration Period for that season for The
National League, National League North and National League South
Clubs shall be the period commencing at midnight on the last day of the
immediately preceding Playing Season and ending at 5.00pm on the fourth
Thursday in March next following.]
After 5.00pm on the [fourth Thursday in March] [31st March] each Playing Season
new registrations, new loans, and transfer of registrations will be declined or will be
approved subject to such limitations and restrictions as the Board may determine
and, if so determined, the Player shall only be eligible to play in the matches for
which permission is granted by the Board.

I’d reckon that players signed after the deadline would only be given dispensation to play in mid table matches that mathematically couldn’t affect promotion or relegation. I seem to recall many moons ago that we signed Simon Grayson and Paddy Atkinson from Sheff Utd after the deadline and they were allowed to play in the last match of the season as it was effectively a dead rubber.
