"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark" - Stephen Hawking.

Hence no benevolent creator with the interests of the human race at heart.

I thought he was a bright fella until I read some of his quotes, a high percentage working on the basis of the existence of a god.

You think you know someone...

RIP gadgie, you were great in the Simpsons.

???

Couple of quotes from today's Graun:

“I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken-down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”

“I believe the simplest explanation is, there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realisation that there probably is no heaven and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful.”

There are hundreds/thousands of Gods across the world, but there is really only one God, our God, the Christian God, all the others are nonsense. :animals-dogrun:

You are right though Mr Dawes.

My mate went to uni at Cambridge and apparently an old freshers ritual was if you saw him you had to tip his chair up, seems a bit shan but apprently he always took it surprisingly well. Strange lot these toffs I suppose it was either that or sticking there cock in a dead pigs mouth.

Fairly remarkable bloke to be fair though seen as he was told he had two years to live in the 1960’s but went on to live a full life full of notable achievements despite the obvious obstacles he had to overcome.

It’s a bizarre though because I always considered him to be American (even though I knew he hasn’t) because of the generated voice box thing when before his illness he probably sounded like the students who used to tip him over.

I've got a feeling Trump thought the same thing and once said that he wouldn't have survived if he'd lived in a country with a state health service when he was attacking Obamacare.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

The human race has been around for thousands of years and has believed in hundreds if not thousands of different gods. Every one has been debunked by SCIENCE and it will continue to do the same for today's beliefs. Sorry but being dead is the same as it was before you were born.

The world is left much poorer with the loss of such a genius.

Oh, wait, Jim Bowen died too, balance restored.
