I personally had checked his recent gigs so knew what to expect, I thought there was a lot of people there who aren't what you would call 'die hard' fans, they know the 6 or 7 'radio' tracks but not the full catalogue.
I'm not suggesting that your young'un is one but I heard a lot of people shouting out their favourites in the hope he would oblige and he basically has that many you couldn't fit them in in 4 hours let alone an hour and a half.
I enjoyed it, but agree he did play some of his newer and more obscure tracks tonight. which you could tell many hadn't heard before.
Wasn't any support act's on though which was strange as the tickets said.......plus special guests sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

They did thankfully play 'How soon is now' which is worth the entrance money alone I'd say.

Although I like his new album, I thought it was a bit disjointed and ended a bit flat. Needed more Smiths songs in his set to keep the crowd going.

I’d carve one out for pretentious music lovers. And Bates. Bates out.

Was Peter Wyngarde there?

Yeah I think he was expecting more Smiths stuff, he has seen the tribute group a few times that play the O2 a few times a year (check them out if you haven't already they are on in May and he says they are excellent) and was hoping to see the real thing - sort of. Also said he had looked at a setlist from an earlier gig that had a few Smiths song on it quite early that he didnt play. When I told him he had played How soon is now and he was a bit pissed off that he hadn't stayed to see it through as he loves that song too.

I blame the catering. He shouldn't have insisted on a committed vegan's diet.

We were at the Arena on Monday to see The Script. The sound engineers again failed to get the correct balance & the vocals were drowned out. It seems like they just can't get it right when bands play there

Does the Arena have its own sound engineers or does each act use there own company, must admit ive been there dozens of times and the sound has always been spot on from what i can remember.

I wondered which it is, Watty, but if each band has its own engineers (as one might expect), how can so many of them get it so wrong? I've seen solo artists there where the sound has been fine, but it seems that with a band they feel as if they have to fill that shed with pure volume & quality goes out the window

Thing is Morrissey's one of the few 'political' artists out there atm, when I was younger there was quite a few, so maybe the present crop of fan's just don't get that?.

He started off last night with half an hour of footage of various groups/artists/ standup's/political figures which gave you some idea of the mindset of the man/group, then his first track had a picture of Thatcher about to be clubbed by a truncheon wielding copper (sorry Mr.I ), tracks accompanied by video's of police oppression, bull fighting in Spain, serial killers, famous icon's who died young or burn't themselves out, US policy, the rich/poor gap.
He did play about 6 Smiths related song's but at the end of the day which artist doesn't want you to hear their newer stuff and go out and buy it.
We enjoyed it, but I can sympathize with those who didn't, for example the tickets stated doors open at 6pm, which you know if your a regular gig attender is far too early to go, which some people had, then had had to amuse themselves till something came on the screen at 8.30.
I'd been told by a couple of security/car park attendants that he wouldn't be onstage till 9.04pm (a rather precise time) so didn't go in till just before 8. He actually came on at 9.02 so they weren't far wrong, he exited at 10.35 after a one track encore.
