In America at least 17 dead in a high school, same old story teenage ex pupil with a grudge who had legally bought an assault rifle from a shop. 19 years old too young to buy a beer but old enough to buy a killing machine.

You can’t put into words how fucked that place is.

What will it take for anything to change? I have just seen on the news that this is the 18th school shooting incident in America this year, yes that’s right this year as in 45 days of 2018. Yet Trump lectures us about Islamic Terror, get your own house in house you orange faced buffoon 3 of the 10 worst mass shootings in American history have happened since he has been president.

It doesn’t help that the bloke running the gaff is as backward as they come.

I’ve just seen an part of his interview with Piers Morgan were trots out that he believes in the 2nd amendment and that what is needed is more guns as if ‘bullets came back in the other direction many lives would be saved’ Unbelievably scary shit. What a World we live in.

The NRA have far too much influence because even politicians who try to do something about it can’t. Fifteen thousand people were shot dead in America last year, fifteen thousand!!!!!!

We have plenty of backward people, but we don't let them have guns.

Just think how much worse it would be then if they let them buy guns and alcohol at that age.

To be fair sneaking beers from the fridge is a lot less policed than buying a gun.

It's not just Trump, but when he was interviewed by Piers Morgan he had a chance to say he was taking steps to moderate g un ownership - he did nothing of the sort. It will never change until the President decides.

Quote:
America and guns. A view. (Feel free to comment, like and share)

Another shooting. Another preventable tragedy. You may wonder why the gun issue hasn't been solved in the U.S. Well it's simple. The States is a country where millions of dollars are paid to politicians and political parties from lobbyists of the guns/arms trade. They give money to politicians and have influence over gun policy. These gun companies want weapons and artillery sold and that will continue with the influence they have on American politics.

One of the main arguments for gun ownership is self defence. Well if there were less guns and your police did their job so the streets were safer, you'd have less reason to own a gun. If you weren't afraid at every turn you would feel safer. The evil people who are a different colour to you - most of them are OK and like you. They're not terrorists or gangs. They're not coming for you. Relax and watch some football.

Another is the 2nd amendment of the constitution. The right to bear arms. This was included with the idea being that the government could never have total power over you and if it were necessary, you could form a militia to overthrow the government. So, the way I see this is that the idea is 'I own a gun, because I might need to use it to overthrow government.' With a country obsessed with terrorism, doesn't this sound...a bit terrifying? This 2nd amendment was written nearly 250 years ago. A lot of people thought the world was still flat (a lot more) and that slavery was bloody brilliant. They were wrong. And views changed.

Another reason to own guns is for hobbies. Hunting. If you're hunting animals unnaturally, then you're not a straight, clear thinking individual. Going to the target range to shoot off a few rounds. Sorry, go get another hobby. If you want to complain about your guns being taken away, tell it to the mothers of schoolkids that have been killed this year. Play chess instead. It's hard to kill someone with one of those little pawn things. And with chess you can imagine it's a real battle with real death.

'But only a good guy with a gun, can stop a bad guy with a gun.' Hmmm...where was this good guy in Las Vegas? Orlando? Columbine? Was he not on Facebook messenger when it kicked off? The problem with this statement is that when you realise the guy with a gun is bad, he's probably already caused some destruction.

America - Do a few things. Limit the amount of money that politicians and political parties can raise and can spend during election campaigns. You know what'll happen? You'll have less rich sods influencing the laws of your country. And you'll start controlling your guns. You'll sort out your healthcare. You'll still have Trump - but hey, you can't have everything.

Come on Americans. Sort yourselves out. Shape up. Speak up. Rise up. Time's up.

The issue is that any constitution amendment has to go through congress and the damage to the economy of the USA is massive. It would be like banning alcohol in the UK, the benefit of it to the economy (wrongly) far outweighs the societal impact.

The gun nuts are taking the constitution for a ride. The actual (epically badly punctuated) phrasing of the 2nd amendment states unambiguously that the right to bear arms is in the scope of a well drilled militia to overthrow an oppressive gov't.
But of course, the oppressive gov't, oh no that ain't us folks.

Just watch "Bowling for Colombine". America is its own worst enemy at times. Did I hear right today 300 school shootings in 2 years? Maybe it was 300 shot in school shootings?

Over 10,000 deaths a year, so could well be. To think as a country we look up to these nut jobs for guidance.

And the comments in the aftermath are “it’s not the right time at this stage to discuss gun control”. Ffs the right time was 25 years ago

They go round in circles , same old sh*t been spouted , then it goes quiet for a while and gets forgotten, then it happens again, and so it goes on. A million and a half killed by guns since 1968 apparently , more than they have lost in wars.

According to snopes (https://www.snopes.com/gun-deaths-wars/)

More Americans have died from gunshots in the last 50 years than in all of the wars in American history. Since 1968, more than 1.5 million Americans have died in gun-related incidents, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By comparison, approximately 1.2 million service members have been killed in every war in U.S. history, according to estimates from the Department of Veterans Affairs and iCasualties.org, a website that maintains an ongoing database of casualties from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm on a bricklayers forum that post job vacancies and as usual it gets hijacked with other posts and there is a lot of Americans on there and there is a bit of light hearted banter with them.

They have all got defensive about this shooting and guns, they can't see the danger in having guns and I our country we can't defend ourselves, there solution to these school shootings is to arm the teachers ! You couldn't make it up

National Rifle Association biggest and most powerful lobbying group in the USA. Bankrolled Trump to tune of 20 million dollars. No wonder he never once mentioned guns, when addressing the nation about the latest shootings yesterday , its mental health what is the problem apparently. More like anger and frustration at a system designed for producing mental health issues on a huge scale. Throw in a system were you can buy a gun at 18 but not be able to have a pint of beer until you are 21 and you have a recipe for disaster. I will give it 4 weeks before the next massacre.

They always defend the right to posses firearms. Do kids not have the right to go to school without worry of being shot?

Compare the number of school shootings with any other country and then look at why that is...

Horrible Horrible barstewards the Yanks, killed 2 million Vietnamese in that war, a war that had nothing to do with them, other than their obsession with Communism. They really are a paranoid set of nut jobs. They are the biggest threat to world peace, not the Russians or the Chinese.

The NRA bankroll the lot of them. Well, all the ones who defend the current gun laws. A woman was thrown out of court last week because she started revealing the thousands of pounds that the NRA had paid to those defending the law.

As with everything else in life, there's too much money to be made, the law will never change. Lives count for fuck all when these bastard's can make money.

Words fail me;

Trump: "If you had a teacher who was adept at firearms, they could very well end the attack very quickly, and the good thing about a suggestion like that -- and we're going to be looking at it very strongly...but the good thing is you'll have a lot of [armed] people with that."

Great solution that, lets fill schools with firearms. Frightening, absolutely frightening.

Imagine that, to be a teacher it’s also handy to have being good at shooting crazed gunmen dead on your CV.

What a World we live in. Why hasn’t that dangerous orange fucker been assasinated yet? It’s a good thing that you’ll have ‘a lot’ of armed people.... really!?

Exactly, or crazed student doesn’t even have to buy his gun he just gets his hands on the teachers. They won’t even have to wait until they are 18 to go on a killing spree!

Radged.

He’s back with more folks, the leader of the free World;

“....History shows that a school shooting lasts, on average, 3 minutes. It takes police & first responders approximately 5 to 8 minutes to get to site of crime. Highly trained, gun adept, teachers/coaches would solve the problem instantly, before police arrive. GREAT DETERRENT!”

Surely the fact that he can even repeat those stats about kids getting shot in school says more than anything he ever could.

Why single out Obama he did as much any of the previous presidents but I didn’t hear any suggestions as absurd as arming teachers and suggesting the solution is even more absurdly more guns.

Issued an Executive Order forcing Social Security to release details of someone with a Mental Illness and claiming a benefit so that it would show up in a background check. Given he couldn't get anything through the US Congress (Republican-controlled), he couldn't implement legislation other than things that he could make an Executive Order for. Trump repealed this within a month of taking office.

Who's going to tell the President that teachers have mental health issues too, usually brought on by the classroom environment, and some end up absolutely hating their students?
