Dad Barry sadly passed away yesterday after a short illness he has informed me. I know he won't mind me saying that Barry was a massive Pools fan, ex-miner, former Union man, ex-councillor, a Socialist/Labour man, big champion of worthy causes (he campaigned fervently to keep the A&E open at the hospital), was a close friend of Tony Benn's, and was a well known and respected man in the Colliery villages.
I personally have many fond memories of travelling to home and away games with him, Ron and Eddie in the 70's/80's , ..... R.I.P Barry and deepest sympathies to Ron and the family.

Thanks for all the kind words lads. I'm in shock, totally gutted to be honest, but I suppose it goes cap in hand with how things are at the moment, fookin shit!.

My dad always said he would never live to see us win a title, and so it proved.

For those who didn't know my late father. A decent tribute to him from our local rag.

That's a great tribute to a bloke who made a difference. You should be very, very proud Ronnie. I'm running through Hesleden at the weekend and will take a moment to honour your Dad.

Thanks Phil !

Ironically my dad was the councillor at the time, who campaigned to get that railway line made into a walkway.

Just read that Mr.Horden....(I tried last night at work but the site crashed my phone)....a fantastic tribute to a wonderful man who it seems thought of others before himself!!!!
I'm just gutted I never 'knowingly' met him!!!!
You and all your family should be very very proud!!!!

I'm sure I would have disagreed with most of his views Ron but I do admire people who stand up for what they believe in. I respect the likes of Tony Benn and the mad Beast of Bolsover but hardly ever agree with them. I suspect your old man fell into the same category.

clappp I think he would of John. Shame you never met. Thats the thing with politics , doesnt matter how fool proof your ideology is or how good you put your argument across, people , even when they are humiliated in a debate, rarely swap sides.

Thanks Dalton and Fat Man. Saturdays game will be emotional for me and my son, that's for sure. For me to lose my dad and Pools to lose their league status and maybe go bust in less than 12 mths is unthinkable. He said he wanted to join The Trust as well, I just never got around to it. I remember mentioning what The Trust was about as my dad , although he attended games, didn't really have much of an interest in football and its politics generally, in fact in last 10 or so years, I think he like a lot of people , started to detest what the game had become. Pools though was another matter, work in progress, that started for him in the late 60s, he lived for the day we won a title , he said he would never live to see us win one, and didn't think we would even win one in the National League.

I digress, but when I told him about the trust, his eyes lit up, and he said he would join straight away, no moaning about the people involved etc, his reason , I quote " if those lads ( apologies to lasses ) are prepared to stand up , devote their time and fight for something , then I'm right behind them , I will join". As someone who did that all his life , he recognised straightaway it was the right thing to do.

Hi Ronnie,

I'm the idiot who filmed you and the match a few seasons back and spent a couple of hours with you and your dad.

Both me and my girlfriend just wanted to say how sorry we are to hear the news. We only spent a short time with you both but he had a real twinkle in his eye and seemed to have a story about everything!

Good luck with the rest of the season mate
