I've got an Mgf Trophy in the garage and I changed the altenator a little while back. The problem is that the red light is still on despite it charging the battery properly.

After I fitted it and a new battery, I drove it from Kent to Staffordshire at night and not a problem, the red light came on after about 50 miles but I carried on. It flickered at first then came on fully. Full lights and ignition no problem so clearly it's charging. The volt meter tells me it's pushing out 13.9v which again is fine so why the friggin red light?

I was suspecting that the replacement altenator was dodgy but the voltage threw me. Incidentally, any idea why if its knackered its still pushing out a decent voltage?

battery warning light diode is faulty which allows voltage to flow the “wrong” way hence illuminating w/lt.

The reason your alternator is charging is because your field windings are still being excited therefore delivering an output etc.

No problem Mr. I.
About 40 years in our Steelworks I looked after lots of mobile plant. I regularly overhauled Lucas 14 ACR alternators!
Gosh Yuve stirred up some happy memories!
