Great record and what a good venue to see them play it in. Should be a superb night out, specially if they add a few tracks from the second album which isn't bad either.

Last forty years have flown by and I'd still like to see Whitehall Up Against The Wall.

It's a busy time for me. The Nightingales (21st), The Fall (23rd), Godspeed You! Black Emperor (25th), AK/DK (27th), then a week later it's Wire (3rd, also at the Riverside) and Richard Dawson (4th)

Would be nice if Wire played Pink Flag in full. 27 minute gig!! clappp

Yeah, they didn't play much from those first three albums when I saw them in 1986, never mind 2016!

Don't know why but this autumn has got loads of good gigs lined up. Going to see all these over the next few weeks:

Peatbog Faeries
Public Service Broadcasting
Slowcoaches
Orielles
Pixx
Sleaford Mods

Plus my nephew's band Violet, who seem to be on the right conveyor belt to getting lots more exposure.

At least the messaging was straightforward 40 year ago.

"Sing if you're glad to be LGBT+ " just doesn't have the same ring to it.

As for "Sing if you're glad to be LGBTQQIAAP ..." !!!

Some great gigs in Newcastle coming up. I'm also at The Fall and got Liars, Jane Weaver, Rocket From The Crypt and McLusky up soon. Hellish.

I'm off to see Pete Fij & Terry Bickers tomorrow, and Childhood in a couple of weeks. Haven't been to a gig in ages, so looking forward to both.

Fantastic gig last night. Terry Bickers (ex The House of Love) was simply sublime.

Public Service Broadcasting were fucken ellish last night. If you get the chance then see them. Much more than just the music. The visual stuff is a proper headfuck, but in a good way.

Slowcoaches well worth the late night and tinnitus on a school night. Non-stop energy and noise. The singer has got amazing presence, looks she loves waht she does.

I saw them supporting Mango Hangover last year. Glad to hear they've improved.

Right up until Monday I thought I'd probably be going to their Newcastle gig. Mark E Smith looked to be in such a bad way and I was fully expecting The Fall's own Newcastle gig on the same night to be cancelled. Pictures coming through from their gig in Wakefield three nights earlier did nothing to inspire confidence. But The Fall did play, with Mark in a wheelchair, head swollen, arm in a sling. Despite this, or maybe partly because of it, he was pretty fucken exceptional. The best MES live vocal I've heard in maybe ten years.

Godspeed were also outstanding, though that was a little easier to predict as they invariably are. The perfect set list for me. They played everything from the new album, so there was plenty of material I had not heard live before. The album is merely good for GYBE, but all four of the songs worked exceptionally well live. The last half hour was taken up with both tracks from the 1999 Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada EP (a career high in a career of highs). It was stunning, with not even the unexpected arrival of the emergency services outside the venue able to put them off their stride. Anyone who has seen Godspeed before will know that their sets are played with grainy archive film loops playing behind them. The film for their set closer (BBF3) shows Canadian city street scenes at night, with lots of blue lights from police. Something tripped a couple of minutes into the song, they briefly lost their backing track, and a fire alarm started sounding somewhere in the building, faintly audible underneath the music but not loud enough to be distracting. Within a couple of minutes there were blue lights coming in through the windows to complement those on the screens behind the band as fire trucks arrived. It was slightly surreal and somehow appropriate. There were amused glances between a few of the band members, but they didn't spill a note. Probably the best performance of BBF3 I've heard. A top night.

Regarding The Fall, I couldn't agree more. MES bizarrely sounded better than he has done in years. Massive respect to the bloke. Also a special mention for the first support act Blood Sport. Fall support bands are usually dreadful but this lot were absolutely superb.

I'm having a right good run, the Orielles were superb tonight. Can't believe what a sound they make for their age. Only mildly spoiled by some twats in the audience wearing wide brimmed hats.
