Great memories. What a team we had back then.

Looking at the laws of physics, it beats me how he never broke his leg.
We did have one other full back who could hit a ball like that but I don't think there's any footage of him. His name was Tony Bircumshaw. The secret lies in having little feet.

Legend. If that halfway line free kick and gone in it would have been on every compilation dvd for the next 50 years. That goal at luton is one of the best strikes of a football i have ever seen at any level.

They never look quite as fast on video. I remember struggling to take in exactly how some of Hugh's efforts got into the net. We need more players with little feet if they guarantee that sort of shot. My sister has got tiny feet but at 50 and around 5 foot I think her overall game would be lacking.

I do not know how the arrow against Luton went so quickly, even in slow motion it's difficult to understand how he gets the ball to travel that quickly, so straight and true. Gary Neville would pass out analysing that with his toys.

It was worth the entrance fee just to see him taking the free kicks. Got to be one of the most exciting players to pull on the blue n white shirt for his " hammer " alone. Looking back we have had some great talented players some had an eye for goal Mally Poskitt , Joe Joe Joe Allon , Bob Newton , Alan Shoulder , Marco Gabbadini , Eifion Williams etc and for pure skill Brian Honour , Robbie McKinnon , Paul Dalton , Micky Brown , Boydie etc. But for me the best and most exciting player ever to play for Pools in my time was the Norwegian legend Jan Ove Pederson. What a foooooooking top top class player that lad was. Think he only played around 18 games for us but he was awesome he really was ...What a player. clappp clappp clappp
