To be fair a full scale Tube Strike that was only called off yesterday might have put a few off and I bet it's still the biggest crowd for an International qualifier in this round of games.

I've defended Stirling in the past but he's pissing me off so far tonight he looks like positionally he has no idea to play number 10, with his experience now he really should. He's drifting wide left all the time. Hart looks as dodgy as fuck as well which is quite an achievement when he's had nothing to do.

Jordan Henderson as well????

He's luckier than a lottery winner to have had the career he's had for such a limited footballer. Can someone tell me what he does?

He's an attacking midfielder I think with experience he has now at a decent level of football he should have a bit more nous than he showed in that half. He strikes me as someone who lacks footballing intelligence he plays the same game hundreds of times without getting better, he also started his career when he burst onto the scene playing in that position.

Two holding midfielders??

This is utterly shite but I fancy Michael Woods to pop up with a last minute winner.

Nobody turned on apart from me as they didn't know they were playing.

I have just turned it off.

I genuinely believe that people who pay money to watch England should be sectioned.

Got to be one of the worst England teams ever.

Nothing and no one on that team excites apart from Rashford.

It's pure dog shit

The midfield is the worst ever no doubt about it.

I'd sack Southgate on Monday with Carlo Ancelotti available.

Tells you everything you need to know about the game when Joe Hart makes 1 save but then Glen Hoddle makes him the man of the match

Ha ha hilarious stuff, he was very lucky not give a penalty away first half and has looked generally dodgy that's a protest vote from Hoddle.

It really has been a week for sitting through utterly shite games and winning deep into stoppage time.

Pools are going up and England are going to win the World Cup.

Thanks to Harry Kane's "little toe boots". Glenn Hoddle might not be insane but he just invents language which makes him seem deranged.

Looking at this game objectively, was there that much difference between watching that shite and watching pools? England internationals or national league entertainment

I read today that if England qualify tonight southgate will get a £250,000 bonus that really does tell you how desperate football at the top level is with far to much money to waste.

I'd imagine he's on a small salary compared to some of his predecessors. Not that it makes it right or deserved. I was half serious earlier when I said I'd sack him now, well let him do the Lithuania game first. Let a bloke like Ancelotti who is a great manager and a charismatic man who speaks perfect English 8 months to prepare for the World Cup. The job is too big for Southgate the performances under him are depressing.

You can't make a silk purse out of a cows ear. That goes for the manager and the team. Get keegan back and just go for it every game. One is bound to go in. Go out with a bang. Something memorable rather than the tournament record for backwards and sideways passing or involving the goalkeeper in open play. That was fuckpigs tonight mind.

Southgate is on £3m a year. So it's understandable why they offered him a bonus.

It was a difficult group and he fully deserves another quarter million.

The post match comments from harry kane and Joe Hart were the most laughable I have ever heard.

"It was a difficult game but we are buzzing and the lads were magnificent. It was difficult for the fans but the result is all that matters"

Is this the modern way.

It seems entertaining is now dead.

From wemberley to Victoria Park winning is all that matters.

Not how they play or how entertaining it is. It's all about results. Just the results.

It only ever seems to be shit and desperate teams and managers that roll out that garbage.

I thought hoddle was embarrassed to even have to award someone man of the match.

I would have given it to rashford myself, the only player not crippled by the burden of being an england player, we'll soon get that out of him.

We've went from cautious roy out of his depth to a younger version, gareth bless him seems a lovely lad, but hes if hes not cut out to get a team set up to beat the likes of slovenia at wembley then this isnt his job.

He's got a system in mind, 4-2-3-1, that he's sticking with despite all the evidence showing it suits absolutely no one.

Play to the players you have and adjust systems, he was so desperate to play with a number 10 yesterday he stuck sterling there and he looked terrible, he's got 6 from the wing this year so moving him inside made no sense.

Henderson and dier are the same player, though i do have sympathy with him in that area as the midfield options are so poor.

The ox has barely played since moving to liverpool and looks so low on confidence, sticking him on the wing done him no favours.

Play to your strengths, get the spurs core in there n play a system they are used to at tottenham, 3/4/3, we have flying full backs and poor wingers so play wing backs and get some support to kane who looks very isolated.

The world cups gunna be shit, its no blessing we've qualified.

Agree with all that.

You would think we were still in the 70s the way the fa pick managers.

It's still the suit that counts most.

Must be the only organisation in the world avoiding the modern world.

I only caught the last 20 minutes and we look appalling, heard it was even worse for the other 70. I genuinely didn't know we were playing last night and honestly didn't care, although I did whack £10 on when we were 11/10 so not all bad. As Yubep says 3/4/3 would suit us, we have players playing this every week for their clubs so why change it when it comes to international.

At international level you only get players for about 3-4 days a month before a game, so i cant work out why southgate is trying to change their position n get them to play a different way.

I think Southgate is the best we will get to do this thankless job............overall the players though are just not up to the standard required............... :character-spamcan:

Totally disagree.

He was manager of boro for a few years and struggled, he was manager of the under 21's and didnt do much. To give him the national job full time is bizarre.

I'd prefer loads of different managers, anchellotti is out of a job, he'd do a job better for a tournament.

I think sean dyche has showed more potential than southgate ever did, the dude at bournemouth too. It's probably too soon for them 2 but in that respect it was too soon for southgate.

Spurs do play 4-2-3-1 from time to time so it's not like the Spurs contingent have no experience of this.

HOWEVER

I completely agree that last night was utterly horrendous and Southgate should really have attempted to change things far sooner than he did. I feel sorry for Kane. Playing for England when it's like that must be like waiting for a bus to arrive on a country lane!

I think we do have the players capable of doing a decent job but the style of football they are told to play goes against everything they are doing with their respective clubs.

I got home and turned it on in about the 92nd minute and it seemed ok to me. Dunno what all the negativity is about.

Over recent tournaments England have flattered in qualification then fallen flat on their faces in the tournaments. Maybe this time it'll be the other way on.

I hope you are right, as I would like to see an England world cup win in my lifetime.

At the moment though the more likely scenario is out at group stage with no wins and no goals.

You are so lucky that I find people who threaten people with violence pathetic. Otherwise you would be getting a bunch of fives.

But we will be having a chat over a nice lemon tea.

I don't fight anyway, I usually just get somebody else or try and scare them with a random name.

People dont do that do they? sctatchinghead

Why would they do that?

Someone threatened me once with their kid, who was a hard case.

But I was ten at the time. And he was 6.

They were awful on Thursday night undoubtedly, but this idea that this idea that this is the worst England team ever is rubbish. What about the teams in the 70's that never won qualification through a group for a single World Cup, or the teams of Graham Taylor featuring Carlton Palmer and Geoff Thomas and Alan Smith.
You can't finish top of your group unbeaten if you are "pure dog shit", it's just ridiculous.
And how can you not be excited by Harry Kane, he's the best England striker since Alan Shearer.

Anyone watch the U21s? Watch the first goal from last night if nowt else.

I'd say the future looks bright but:
1. It was against Scotland.
2. The youngsters seem to have any talent and imagination drilled out of them by the time they make the senior squad.

Maybe not the very worst but it's up there.

I refuse to use taylors team as an example as he was an utter crank that had far better players available but refused to pick them.

The teams from the 70s suffered similar when far better players never got a look in over some very averge players picked.

It was scandalous that we never qualified for 74 and 78 with the players available. Bit if the manager doesn't pick them!!!!!!!!!!

But this team.

Jordan henderson Cahill

Really? ?

The worst central defence for donkeys years the most one dimensional midfield two ever.

Oh we're pretty average there's no doubt about that, but that's my point England aren't great but neither are they nearly as awful as people say. If we were a premiership team we'd be Everton or Southampton not Crystal Palace.
Yeah we have players like Henderson and Cahill who's greatest asset is there work rate and have zero flair but players like Lallana Walker Rashford Kane Ali Stones either already are or have the potential to be very good international players.

I don't agree that not qualifying for the world cup's in 74 and 78 indicates the teams were poor. It was a lot harder to qualify for a world cup back then as it was only a 16 team event. If you didn't win your qualifying group you were out and even then I think some of the group winners had to play off against one another.

I agree that the current England team is not the worst ever but I think the teams of the 70's are harshly judged.
