you do realise that proper players treat 5 a side as mere practice for proper football.

Always thought it was invented to give non/poor players more a chance to compete, as there is less room to make them look stupid.

ANyone can run about like a mad lunatic for 10 minutes on a small pitch.

6/10 All rounder , but mainly a hard working and intelligent defender , able to pick a out a pass and set up an attack , or at least I could the last time I played, which to be fair was a while ago.

Its a well known fact that most intelligent thinkers agree with me more than they want to.

I'd say 7/10 5 a side ability

6ft 2 so just kinda run through people. Compared to Gareth bale by a lad over town the other week.

Ankles are a bit soft now like.

Remember watching that Masters Six a side bollocks on the telly back in the day, and the fat cloggers looked even more like fat cloggers chugging about like headless chickens.

Remember when I first started in the over 40's playing 6 a side up at Martyrs , and Paul Proudlock was there and he was just head and shoulders above everyone else. He was seeing the game in his head 10 times quicker than the rest of us, and even in a confined space always seemed to find time on the ball to pick the right pass. That's a lot harder to do on a small pitch where space is hard to find.

Anyone with half a brain watching on the sidelines who had never seen any of us play could have picked out the former professional in under two minutes.

Not as easy to spot in an eleven a side game on a bad pitch in wretched weather in my opinion.

Spot on Chip. In my early 20s, playing 11-a-side was a breeze compared to a 5-a-side game I played every week at West View with the likes of Matty Hyson, Parko from Supporters et al. Not only did you never stop running, but every pass and every tackle had to be thought through or you would get a bollocking. Also, playing in such a tight area and seeing more of the ball, I definitely felt it helped me get sharper and more confident in terms of being calmer on the ball. It improves your technique, no doubt.

To be honest 5 a side games are for nancy boys.. As a youngster in the collieries we were brought up on 1 v 1 and 1 v 2 games,, that's why we have produced so many good players down the years.

I was thinking we could get you on the left wing, with Mr I on the right wing...

Good idea Phil, I can spin on a sixpence, whereas they reckon Mr I does a good U-TURN

I can have a go in goals if a keeper is needed. Both next Wednesday and in the tournament.
