Aldi's 50/50 is decent bread, if you like that type of thing!

I don't think you can go wrong with a fresh loaf of Tiger bread from Asda with lashings of Lurpack and used to make a salt not vinegar sarnie

I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease a few years back and have been eating pretend bread (gluten-free) ever since. Some is passable, some disgusting, but it's all £3 a loaf!

On balance, I'd have been more hacked off if I'd had to give up potatoes, but catching the smell of freshly baked bread is like suddenly remembering lost love.

Mr Dawes if you check there is a regular market/festival in Cumbria. My mate goes over there and gets loads of decent gluten free products. Also there is a Beer stall on Bishop Market on a Thursday. My mate has bought a few decent gluten free beers and ciders.

As for Gluten Free bread my mate used to get his on prescription. It would do some damage if you hit someone on the head with it!

Prescriptions are made of paper and will do no damage whatsoever FACT, unless attached to a brick :shifty:

Thanks for the tips Mr Bish. I was also offered prescriptions for gluten free staples like bread and pasta but as I'm working decided to just pay over the stuff myself - at least I get some choice that way! I can see paying way over the odds for staples would be crippling for anyone on a low income. It's a bit daft that the offer isn't means tested, but seems to be another one of those things where the cost of administering a means test would outstrip any potential savings.

Aldi (and Lidl?) don't do a gluten free range, more's the pity.

Relatively speaking, gluten free beer and lager isn't the worst rip off. They do very good ones at Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer for £1.75 a small bottle. About par for the course for 'speciality' beer.
