From last season's squad sold gone on at least 5 figure transfer fees - Toto, Carroll, Laurent, Thomas and Allesandra.

I'm willing to stand corrected by MJ, but I don't think that's ever happened before in the club's history - and in the year Pools were finally relegated from the Football League!

I know the squad was unbalanced and we had our share of injuries, but seriously, WTF?

How that team was only 3 places from the drop on Boxing Day - even before Jones got involved - beggars belief.

Concerning the drop I would only include three, which was the alarm bell moment and when we realised how fucked the cockney chancer was.

Thomas was always going to go this summer, Allessandra appears to be the grim reaper he obviously wants to stay in the League even though the teams he plays for don't. The two more who might go who I'd be that most gutted about them leaving actually are still here.

The transfer window was an absolute disaster. For that matter, it was clear in the weeks leading up to it that Hignett had allowed what he knew about the club's financial situation to get to him. Even so, when I think back on the season as a whole I think it was lack of character more than lack of ability that did for us on the pitch.

Saying the team as a whole had it in them to perform much better than they did (something they showed in a handful of games) isn't to excuse for one second the ruinous raping of the club that was going on behind the scenes.

I know there were rumours of the players being paid late a couple of times during the season but even that doesn't excuse going through the motions on the pitch. Clubs like Morecambe were also in financial/ownership turmoil but their players and coaches got the job done.

Also, it's fair to say we had a a handful of players in and around the first team who definitely weren't League 2 standard, as well as a couple of non-playing passengers. But after 45 seasons watching Pools, in about half of which some laughable excuses for a professional footballer were pulling on a blue and white shirt, the statement that this lot were 'some of the worst players in the history of the club' isn't one I can agree with.

Whilst I agree we have had individually some worse players than this team but collectively they were poor. Have we ever had a midfield as poor?

We went all season without a ball winner in midfield, which was criminal, but individually those that did play are all decent footballers.

I'm sure it won't take the new manager long to work out that adding some steel to the squad is the number one priority.

Hignett's issues were worsened by Coxall. Pre-season, Coxall tweets and tells the press we have a transfer kitty from our FA Cup TV money and we have players lined up but we have no funds for transfer fees.

In January, Coxall tells Hignett, we need to sell and have no funds. Hignett says this to the press but Coxall contradicts him says we have transfer money and players lined up.

Coupled with the fact everyone knew Jones was taking over, those are pretty impossible circumstances to work under.

If all those that played were decent players why did we get relegated? Yes we all knew we needed a ball winning midfielder but that alone was not the reason for our demise. Remember probably 70 to 80 per cent of the games we were poor and that's putting it mildly.

I've already said why I think we got relegated, despite having a relatively large number of technically accomplished footballers in the squad.

Most people would include Featherstone, Woods, Deverdics and Walker in that category. Not that they don't have other shortcomings in their game - if they were the complete package they'd all be playing at a higher level.

If you're saying Pools need a fresh start I agree with you, and would be happy if a couple of those players found another club during the close season.
