Just watching the FA Trophy Final on BT Sport I see a couple of ex Poolies out in force David Foley - has scored around 33 goals for Shields this year and on the bench is Darren Holden . Just thinking we will be competing for this next season .The reality of been a none league team is setting in .

You are watching the Vase final not the Trophy, you will compete in the Trophy next season, the final Macc v York is on at 3:15 today after Vase final.

A slip of my finger I got confused !! Vase fFinals quite entertaining I'm tipping Shields, Going for York in the trophy final - I feel for them and fear we could be heading down their path if more bad decisions are made!

4-0... and finally a team won a semi at the Vic and then won at Wembley. Pity it wasn't Pools.

Backed by 13000 fans.
Brilliant support for a 600 mile round trip.
With there ambitious chairman i fully expect them to rise up the football pyramid like Spennymoor.
Still cant believe we only one division in front of them.

There could be a day when both those clubs are higher than Pools and Darlo thanks to chairmen who have money to throw around like its gone out of fashion.
With Shields at least they have potential with a decent following but Spennymoors support is poor considering the team their chairman has allowed Ainsley to sign.

Spennymoor is a very small Town, in fact;

Average attendance considering of 564 they have a population of 19,816 is 2.8% of the population

Darlo at 1,739 with 106,000 represents 1.6% of the population.

Spennymoors best crowd of 946 is like you getting a crowd of over 5,000.

The point is that despite the money being thrown about it hasn't appealed to enough people. Just like Brookes Mileson at Gretna, a rich mans plaything that nobody other than a handful of people are interested in.

The population of Nailsworth is 5,800 (home to Forest Green Rovers). They took 2,861 to Wembley to see them enter the Football League. I suspect the Shields Chairman puts little into the club...just the tax written off from his income maybe. He built Gateshead back into a decent Conference team before that but within a season Gateshead crowd can't compete with Shields. Shields should obviously be in the Conference/National League at least with their crowds. They will need a new stadium first though.

I hope the 58 or so Shields fans who travelled to "Home" games at Peterlee a few seasons back when Shields had nowt enjoyed the result, proper footy fans.
