Just scored a cracker against the Mags. 12 League goals for the season with Preston.

That's what Ronnie Moore brought to Pools - a great eye for a player.

Was about to post about him. It's no wonder we're in this mess when you think we only just survived with him and tish in the team.

You could see he had something about when he was here, surprised at how quickly he has realised that potential though, fair play to him. Thought Oates could of achieved similar , but they are now worlds apart, is it because Hugill is that much better a player or has Oates development suffered through been at Pools?

I'm sorry I have a reason to be biased but I can't help for pedantic reasons point out that Tish, Mirfin and Hugill were lined up under Paul Murray before Ronnie Moore came to the club

Are you sure Hugill was we had Ryan Bird first if you remember so he came in long after Murray went. Hugill had actually got injured in the September of that season and didn't return to fitness until the February. He came to us on deadline day at the end of March after a month at ironically (seen as it was his goal that relegated them) Tranmere. Whoever was responsible they are exactly the quality of loan signings that would have kept us way out of trouble this year.

Lad is doing well, Mirfin and Tshibola 2 of the most important loanees ever given what they achieved here.

We have blown the loan system totally this year, only Fryer has come in and played any number of games and impressed.
Louis Rooney must be scratching his head, moving 350 miles for naff all.

Deffo Mirfin and Tish were, Hugill had been recommended to Pools a few times, there's a local scout who knew him from his days with Marske United so Muz can't maybe take credit for him. He was however known to the club before Ronnie came in

Ultimately it's all down to having good players and creating an atmosphere in which they can thrive. Too much emphasis on coaching drills and robotics these days. Get good players who complement each other and it can be easy. Something the great Brian Clough was a master at, no coaching from him as such

People eulogizing about IOR might also want to know that in that 6 weeks or so he got as manager they were ignoring his daily requests to push forward with the loan signings. Russ kept promising he was faxing the requests to Hodcroft (I kid you not, that was the standard op) until he decided to screw that and go direct.

Also worth remembering the TMH stuff was all going on in th background at the time too. The checkbook opened a little for Moore when TMH fell through and IOR realized they would have better chance of offloading a league club than a non league one

To be fair Mr Dalton emailed me to say Murray had been offered the Pools job about 3 days before he was officially announced as manager.

Had I opened my bloody emails that week I could have made a killing with the bookies as think he was 16/1 at the time. Was kicking myself afterwards. It still upsets me now thinking about it.

Aye and he had Willie Donaghie imposed on him after he had contacted Wads to come with him. To be fair Donaghie was alright apparently but how the club was being run then by IOR is nothing to wish for regardless of the current mob's capabilities
