So here we are. 6 games left and slipping and slipping a bit more each season. Somebody the other week pulled me up over Cheltenham. OK you have your opinion. Newport have us in their sites. Sad for me that Leyton O have almost gone but will surely stave off the league's record loss by beating Pools on Easter Monday. Can we win any of these last games? Barnet would be the obvious with them having nothing to play for and last week I would have said Morecambe away but all of a sudden they have got sucked into the bottom places. Can anyone of us really see Pools at present beating either Carlisle or Donny? An away we have Morecambe so heavens forbid we lose their next Saturday. Then its Leyton O and insignificant Cheltenham which might prove to be a huge game now. I know Chip is not really for fancy dress but I have to ask what this might be now and some last minute thinking if it was taken for granted that we were safe? We are not. Pools fan since 1965 and always will be but I confidently know that we would be the most popular club to go for lasting out so long. So in conclusion we are heading to oblivion. love to be proven wrong and will accept the criticisms. Not born in Hartlepool or even in County Durham and this breaks my heart but reality is reality. Torquay had their dog who bit (an ex Poolie player), Carlisle had Jimmy Glass. Who will save Pools? The Chairman? Keith Houchen like he did in 1994/95 (hounded out despite having no money and players he signed who did the dirty on him). Interesting thought that if re-election was still with us then we would surely have gone long since. Come on fellow and lass bunkerites and even rarfs, give me some cheer some hope because its looking grim right now.

Looking at Newport's fixtures, it's hard to see them getting past 46 points even if they win their last 3 home games. Pools need 6 more points and will probably scrape into 22nd place.

You're right - fans of other clubs must be thinking how do those fuckers manage to miss the drop every season?

Can see Newport getting 46 points comfortably which will give them a better GD than us.
So we need 6 pts which wont be a forgone conclusion.
We could even fix the Cheltenham game for a draw to send Newport down.

I'm scared witless, our luck has to run out sometime, and Jones patter is becoming predictable after each game.

I know its maybe unreasonable given the circumstances when taking over, but I rightly or wrongly expected a better sequence of results.

Lord knows why.!!

Well Morecambe have lost 7 in a row, we need to go there and throw the kitchen sink at them, in my personal opinion.

Respect to you chip and your comments are always fair and well thought out. The fancy dress thing I feel is perhaps a sense of fun occasion rather than an expression of achievement at finishing safe. As for Newport. They have taken 10 points from the last 6 games I believe and they have to go to Plymouth. Argyle have lost four from the last 6 at Home Park. And Orient who are self-imploding during to well-known off the field issues play Pools at home on Easter Monday. And we all know Pools track record. I think Orient are on some kind of league home defeat record and that fixture worries me.Don't want to be a Jonah but all it takes is Pools to fluff their lines at Morecambe and Newport to close the gap and....Also, Carlisle have got back to finding a win and they and Donny have to come here. I hope I'm made to look stupid and get it wrong.

Newport have picked up 10 points from the last 18 - it's at least a platform for a Great Escape [(c) Ronnie Moore, 2014] and hanging on for the win with 10 men is bound to have given their fans some encouragement. Their 3 last home games look a damn sight easier than ours!

It's in Pools' hands - but our most winnable games look to be away from home, and we've won away from home only once in the last 6 months.

So personally I'm not feeling super confident - I think we'll probably get there in the end, but I wish I had more faith in the motivational ability of Dave Jones and Co.

It's less to do with his team selection and tactics (...) more because to me at least he comes across on the radio as dour, distant and superior.

Maybe that's just how he is with journalists. Maybe he's great with the players behind the scenes, or one of his coaches is. I hope so, because if Michael Flynn has got the Newport players believing in themselves and enjoying their football, they might just keep their little run of results going to the end of the season.

Imo Cheltenham have the hardest run in of anyone. Wycombe, Crawley, Blackpool and Portsmouth away, Grimsby and you know who at home.

Lets hope we're safe by 29 April.

How many have pools picked up in that time?

Er, 6. If it had been 10, we'd still be 9 points clear of Newport.

So so true...we just always make it hard for ourselves.

I'm with Mally Dawes on this one. Its gonna be a hold your breath time I reckon. Newport have a new belief in themselves and Pools? I could see Newport winning all three home games against Yeovil Town, Accrington Stanley and final match against Notts County. As I said earlier if Pools go guano at Morecambe and Newport manage to beat Exeter in Devon, its hold on to your horses time. The Leyton O game worries me the most because they are going down and might just do us over. It would be deeply ironic and devastating should they send us down when many years back Keith Houchen agreed a move to Orient to actually save Pools. That's football folks and we all know it can get a bit unreal at times. Whatever happens I send out good thoughts and best wishes to all bunkerites and will be there for Pools whatever the outcome as I know you lot will be.

They've only won 3 games at home all season...

What does seriously confuse me though is why folk see the need to celebrate us not getting relegated, like its some sort of bloody achievement. Given our attendances are average for this division we should be finishing mid table at least. Yet some folk consider finishing third bottom an achievement. As long as that sort of mentality pervades its hard to see things improving.

The annual festival of the mythical great escape bandwagon kicks in yet again and appears to becoming the norm.
Instead of 'getting behind the lads' and rapturously slapping them on the back for saving our league status yet again, can we just ask the question...How do we keep getting in this mess in the first place on an annual basis?

If we go into the Cheltenham game with us both just needing a draw to stay up, it could well be the most entertaining game of the season as we play out a tactical 0-0.

Featherstone would still get pelters for passing "sideways" like.

Newport have been crap for most of the season but since Flynn took over as caretaker manager they've won 3, drawn 1, lost 2. They're getting the kind of new manager bounce that Pools have patently not had with Dave Jones.

That doesn't make Flynn a genius and Jones a dunce and I'd be happy to judge Dave Jones on what he's able to do in 2017/18 after he's had the chance to reshape the squad and get a pre-season in.

There's just the little problem of these last 6 games. Newport have a bit of momentum now whereas Pools have lost three on the bounce.

Morecambe are on even worse run than us, so Pools just have to go there on Saturday, win well (win any bloody how), Newport get beat at Exeter, and it's almost job done. What could possibly go wrong?

Nobody had to be Mystic Meg to have a gut feeling about how today was going to turn out. Down to the fucking wire, as usual.

Right now, I'd say Newport are staying up. For Pools to stay up too, we have to get above Cheltenham, which means winning home matches.

Hopefully the crowd can be the twelfth man, as they were two seasons ago (and all the times before that).

I'd still rather have our fixtures than theirs.

If we can't pick up another couple of wins from the games we have left then we don't deserve to stay up. Orient have hoyed in the towel by the looks of things, so its now one down from half a dozen possibles.

6 or 7 points from 5 games, 3 of which are at home, isn't a big ask.

Chip, we look clueless, the middle is dire, Donnelly is low on confidence, Oates not trained all week and was blowing arse wind the last 30, Allesandra dire today, DJ has a bench he obviously doesn`t haven`t any faith in or they would have replaced the those 3, doomed I tell you!
