Saw in the paper this morning that a bloke from the town got a suspended sentence and a £250,000 fine for flogging ready to stream Sky Sports Kodi boxes. seems like a huge amount of money, was he Captain Kodi supplying them to half the UK or something?

Probably making an example of him as well to scare people off, they will never fully crack down on it.

He's not going to jail though is he. He knew full well what he was doing and now, thanks to his ill-gotten gains, he can afford the fine and have some left. Seems quite lenient to me.
I've got nothing against dodgy streams, but I stop at straight-out counterfeiting.

For me it's a nothing-to-see-move-on moment.

Kodi will be a thing of the past soon, Hatman is the future.

He had to pay the council's £170,000 costs...is that their sky bill plus a few holidays on top of the investigation?

Just thinking that Mr Portsmouth will no doubt be at the game on Saturday and he wears a big hat. Maybe he could incorporate a camera into it?

I'm with Mr Monty on this. The same people who complain about the fine etc, will be the first ones to complain about the price rise in fillums at the pictures, the price of beer in pubs, the price of etc. etc........ not realising they are part of the cause by going Fugasi!!!!!!!

I acknowledge its wrong, but as so often the law appears to be administered heavier and disproportionately when the "victims" are corporate giants. Regardless of whether he is a millionaire or not (although it looks like he earned his million legally) I question whether the punishment fits the crime.
Some think it will, others may disagree.

For a fine to be proportionate with similar cases, it needs to have a proportionate impact. In short, a £250000 fine would feel very different to me, than it does to him. That's why courts will always do a means assessment before deciding the amount of any fine.

I have no idea why people would want to defend this self confessed criminal.

Far from defending him I am just questioning the sentence, and appreciate further input which I was for the most part unaware of.
Given some of the added content I can see why its balancing more to being fair and justified than I first thought.

Cheers.!!!

You get involved in that sort of thing and there's a price to pay when it goes tits up. Why would anyone be remotely concerned about the fine. If you have any pity to spare, there are far more worthy causes than this to get wound up about.
What next, a whip round?

He has 10 month suspended sentence, got a proceeds of crime fine of 80 grand, and the rest is costs.

So no jail time, has to pay back the 80 grand he robbed, and pay the prosecution costs. Don't see how that is even remotely harsh. As for him being a legitimate businessman, I assume that's why he was lured into a trap where someone tried to break his legs with baseball bats, someone else tried to shoot him, and he was warned not to talk in Hartlepool.

He sounds very legitimate. Given a loaded gun was thrown in bushes during one incident where children could easily have picked it up and begun playing with it, I have no idea why people would want to defend this self confessed criminal.

If it's a proceeds of crime order, then it's not even a fine; the court will have examined his assets etc and determined how much he made from criminal behaviour.

He used to own Network Ariels down the bottom of Elwick road and then went national by advertising nationally in yellow pages and just rang fitters all over the country and he got a percentage of the fitting and made a fortune
