Just mentioned on radio cleveland that Alan Ball died last night of a heart attack. Only 61 he was. sadx

RIP very sad news indeed, no age neither. im too young of course to of seen him play but a true legend in his own right.

If I heard it correctly, he died of a heart attack on his allotment after a fire he created got out of control. Great bloke. only 21 when he won the World Cup too :shock:

Sad news RIP. I saw him play a few times, a real midfield dynamo. I also remember his dad (also Alan Ball) who managed Halifax.

Iv'e just read a good piece in The Daily Mail about him courtesy of the rest of the 66 heroes, according to them he was man of the match and the driving force behind them that day.He was the youngest of the team but kept them going late in the game and all through extra-time when it was getting tiring and someone needed to stand up and get a grip of the situation.The rest is history.


RIP.A legend.
