Yep thats right, he was 61 when the Falklands war was on and served in the Merchant Navy on RFA Tidespring. He was also one of three people who served in the Falklands War and WW2.

Stand down and RIP ye olde matlot, duty well and truly done.

Does that just leave you or is the other guy still alive?

Such people make you proud to be British. Obviously Beckham deserves a knighthood more than him though.

Ha ha friggin ha. Oh contraire, I was at the other end of the scale. It is scary though. People who were Sgt's and Sgt Majors at the time are now in their seventies. The commanding General is long since dead and the two Brigadiers are both in their eighties.

My granda turned 91 this year. He lived through world war 2 and his stories are amazing. His brother fought in WW2 but sadly died a few years ago aged 93.

I take my kids over just to here the stories, it's nothing you'll ever get taught in a school.

Tells a great story of the central pub being bombed and people running in the cellar to pinch barrels of beer.
