R.I.P.

No minor celeb he; one of my all-time favourite actors - as Quentin Crisp and Caligula on the tele, brilliant performer in fillums, Midnight Express, Alien, Scandal, The Hit, Nineteen Eight-Four. And what a voice!

Absolutely one of the top 5 best British film/TV actors of all time.

RIP.

Edit: it's exasperating when they put things like "Star of Harry Potter" as if the public were too thick to have heard of an actor in any other context.

Well said and not forgetting 10 Rillington Place and Champions, probably the best actor of his generation.

It was a brave call to take on the Quentin Crisp role in those days, many wouldn't have. John Hurt not only accepted it but put in a superb performance. Remember homosexuality had only been legal a few years and to the greater part of the public it was still taboo.

RIP John Hurt, a fine and courageous actor.

Caused me many sleepless nights and nightmares as a kid with that alien scene :(

Something about his hand twitching afterwards made it even worse.

RIP
