I thought it was a fairly hilarious sideshow

Playing the goal celebration music before the penalty was always going to result us missing it but the 12 Stevenage fans taking the piss doing 'Tom Hark' as we got the ball back mounted another attack and scored 40 seconds later was a thing of beautiful poetic justice and got the whole ground joining in.

I reckon we should try it every game, pull people out of the pub like we did today get them on the tannoy. To be fair that music has been played in the past by Ivan Ash (I think?) for a substitution and by someone else (probably John Orley) after we'd been relegated.

At the end of the day it's a voluntary role someone doing the job competently is quite boring really (it's just reading information out nobody really needs to hear if they have functioning eyes) at least that was quite funny today.

It's all about setting the levels right. The sound is "set" at a level in the Police Control box . Then you've got to set your gear in the Press Box to suit, so that it doesn't overload (go into the Red and cut out) that level.

Also, when I was Announcer I didn't use a laptop. I used a proper Shure SM58 microphone and a double cd deck. Old School maybe, but not prone to fucking up, crashing, cutting out etc etc.

The bloke yesterday was hilarious. Obviously not a Pools fan, which I still firmly believe you need to be to do that job.

Him getting the score wrong in the first of the schools' penalty shoot outs was comedy gold too - just the way the big lass with the whistle shook her head and carried on regardless.

I would try to make it as entertaining as possible for Pools fans, taking the piss out of the opposition and their fans at every opportunity. He was laughably bad. I'd have been angrier about the music at the penalty had Featherstone not scored so soon afterwards.
