How on earth does reading a chat room/facebook page and writing it down again justify the job of being a journalist?

It makes my urine reach the temperature at which it bubbles and turns to vapour.

It's just like me listening to the bloke at the bar in my local saying something stupid and then publishing it. :angry-screaming: banghead

So much of local papers now consists of looking at social media and repeating the shitist bits. Get a proper job you leaches.

Entirely agree with all of the above and as for charisma, Gerrard would make a breezeblock seem like a fascinating companion.

Nice SEO-friendly headline leading it being the most read story of the day on The Fail's site. All about them clicks. Welcome to modern-day journalism.

You could always try to auction it off in a few years with other priceless shirts like Tom Craddocks

The picture is of a fruit bat as well.

Lazy, ignorant journalism....if indeed it is journalism.
The wishes of a daydreamer hardly constitute news, but to print it as such reveals to me a piss take of the situation or a thorough ignorance of it.

Can't believe what I'm reading here. Steven Gerrard is coming to Pools and the world is about to end in a Hammer House of Horror style vampire rampage caused by Brazilian bats with hairy legs and you lot say it isn't news.

People like Gerrard wouldn`t take on a minnow with no money, they need a sugar daddy to provide funds for players, if it comes down to coaching ability and man management, I would prefer someone like that Gene Wilder at Sheff Utd typo.

Don't be too quick to dismiss Gerrard monkeybutt. He may not have spoken to Tommy Widdrington yet and may still be unaware that we're Hartlepool not Liverpool.

It's Betteridge's law of newspaper headlines isn't it. One of the golden rules of non-journalism.

"If a headline asks a question, the answer is almost certainly no."

It all depends on what you're trying to achieve. If the Mail has accepted defeat as a 'newspaper' then maybe it's business model has changed to one of clickbait. Theres definitely a lot of money in it so maybe thats the instructions from above.

You can argue that news organisations are now more like curators of stories rather than actual news gatherers. Idea is that they round up the most interesting stuff and then add comment and analysis otherwise they've got no value because you could just look on social media and the web yourself. Problem is who they have in mind when they're rounding up and commenting. The Guardian aim everything at liberal young professionals inside the M25 while the Daily Mail targets rabid right wing loons and celebrity obsessed perverts. The Hartlepool Mail seems to have honed in on shite that only morons would bother with. I'm not sure it is a long term business model even a world where the Daily Mail's spewing of vile crap goes down a storm.

Nah, the Mail has changed. It was a local paper, a shell of its former self. I always bought it, now it's an occasional buy. Charity events, activities of morons, late 'news' and pictures of the same attention seekers sum it up for me.
I bought it last night and read the Kelly's Eye column as he claimed to have tipped Richie's return and bemoaned the shock departure of Hignett..... 'shock'..... ? this came as a shock to a sports journalist? Oh dear.
He said to sack the boss Coxall picked was baffling.....? Why ....?
Apparently he should have been left in place.
He then expressed his disappointment with the departure of toto and Carroll. He admitted toto had a mishap or two but selling him after six months was not good business and ...'ditching Carroll, a player with the potential to go for a six figure sum, is folly'.
He said he's a big admirer of Hignett and concerned about the managerial merry go round....... aren't we all, but we can't sit around waiting for the good times to come when it's patently obvious the incumbent manger has no idea what to do next. It's about the club, not the personnel.
